There's a vegan truck and THE best Mexican food in town is from a
Mexican truck. We are fairly small so there aren't many around.

Some of the best Mexican in St. Louis is from a little place that
isn't much bigger than a truck. Their food is very taco truck. It's
all about that stuff in the plastic bottles that you squirt on.

Food trucks of all varieties are really common here. A lot of them
have amusing names (CurryUpNow and Chairman Bao are two of my
favorites) and a regular following. Truck decoration is often
elaborate and distinctive*. They use Twitter and FB to
announce where they are going to be parked. There is even a
regular (weekly) event called "Off the Grid" where a number of them are in
the same place.

They're easier to find some places than others due to local regulations.
(And in San Francisco, where parking is a blood sport in most
neighborhoods, finding a parking-place-with-permission is tricky.) I have
to find out if the town council next door decided to kill the trend
and lively scene in their borders by imposing a "truck fee".

* It's not in my area, but a DC-area friend of mine is devoted to Curbside
Cupcakes, with their bright pink truck called "Pinky".

i've seen that truck! (in silver spring, md.) i could not imagine how
they sell enough cupcakes to keep it afloat, but then again there are a few
brick-and-mortar cupcake places around here.

I hear they're pretty tasty. And you don't have to make an extra trip if
the truck is on your block.

They will also deliver cupcakes-by-the-dozen to your location per special
order, so again, if you want a special treat for your meeting or for a
party, you don't have to make an extra trip (further than the
curb). I wouldn't be surprised if this pushed them over the top,
margin-wise.

I know the cupcake truck around here (Cupkates - baker is named Kate)
sells out regularly and people do follow it around.
