Default Plums, fresh and delicious!

Being a plum and monster cardamom fan, I'm tempted to give this a try,
if I can find good plums. Jes bought some fresh cardamom. What plums
would you suggest, though I'll no doubt be stuck with whatever I can
find.

The best plum for baking is the Green Gage, sweet and tart... not
often sold at market, mostly they're home grown.. wonderful for eating
out of hand too. I planted a seven year old tree three years ago but
haven't seen any plums yet, hopefully this coming spring.

Don't believe their "Instant Orchard" BS. Even mature and fruiting
when dug a tree needs at least 3 years to recover from shock and
establish itself. But plum trees are well worth growing. Even if you
haven't much space a dwarf tree will produce well... I planted semi
dwarf, full size are difficult to mannage, and I really don't want
that much fruit all at once.

Buy your fruit trees from a local grower's nursery, mail order entails
too much risk and they are pricy. I paid $70 for mine, was a six
footer field grown, it's growing very well, about 8' tall now and its
trunk grew from 1" to 2" caliper. I'm hoping that in another year I
can remove the deer fence. And of course plum trees blossom
magnificently.

We saw them too, but not enough there to use for a cake. We cooked them,
but they weren't very sweet at all.

There were three types of plums at the little stupidmarket in town
today, they had big plump prune plums but I bought six each of what
they called red plums and black plums; $1.59 lb. So far I ate one
each, very good but need about two more days out on the counter to
ripen. The prune plums were marked $1.99/lb. I like prunes but I
never cared much for prune plums. They had Ronzoni pasta on sale, all
shapes 69¢/lb... grabbed ten assorted.

I went into town to have a permanent crown installed, last upper left,
no one will ever see it, even I can't see it... but it feels great
compared to the one that a big hunk cracked off the side of the old
filling. I don't like going to the dentist but I do.

We went last week. Might go tomorrow is there's time to see if there's a
better lot available.

Just saw red plums today. 99¢ for the bag, I think it was 3 lbs.

That's cheaper than rice. I guess you didn't buy any because at that
astronomical price you'd become impoverished.

33¢/lb nowadays for fresh plums is *unbelieveably* cheap... would be
cheap for five years ago. I bought fresh plums two days ago, six red
plums; my receipt says: 1.37lbs at $1.69/lb cost $2.32.

There's only so much two people can eat. Since I'm the only one who
eats plums, I bought nectarines and apples instead.

That was the least expensive price I've seen all summer.

We've had those most of the summer. Want the pointier purple 'Italian'
or 'prune' plums for our cake
