Default A wedding on the Jersey Shore

My cousin lucked out for an October wedding. Wow, 3 weddings in our family
in the last 16 months. All of them beautiful and moving.

Since the wedding was just up the coast we only went for 2 days, so no foody
experiences this time.

The very quick ceremony was followed by cocktails and appetizers while the
wedding party was being photographed. Yummy dishes carried by the caterers
as they walked around the deck of Windows on the Water while we got in a
couple of drinks before dinner. Tiny crab cakes that rivaled what you get
in MD, other things that I had no idea of what they were. A table of
crudités if you wanted that. There was an antipasto and I accidentally
dripped olive oil on my nice dress and even club soda couldn't take it out.
Ah well. Can't take me anywhere.

Dinner was buffet style and there was way too many choices to taste
everything. Mahi mahi (not really good IMO), shrimp jambalaya, roast beef,
roasted veggies, a couple of pasta dishes including one they cooked in front
of us in the buffet line, and the wedding cake was red velvet cake with the
tastiest frosting. A very simple cake, just tiered but no pillars, a simple
red boarder between the layers and all white decorations on the rest of it.
No little people on top, just a big cluster of piped roses. Tastefully
simple and just delicious. Only had a couple of bites because I can't eat
sweets but I had to have a taste. The food was delicious and abundant.
The laughter and smiles and meeting up with family not seen enough was
fantastic. The band was fantastic and played songs that everyone knew. How
do these young people know the hits from the 70s and 80s? And, the bar was
open. lol

I'm attaching a few pics of the view. Nothing personally identifiable
unless you can see someone you know in the light of the bonfire. Every
table setting had a bag of the makings of s'mores. I think this was the way
to get us all out to clean up so the staff could go home. Good idea! You
know how hard it is to get people to leave sometimes.

We walked down to the water and it was as warm as the air temp. The
forecast said it would be in the 40s by this hour but it was still warm and
the ocean felt wonderful. Too many jellyfish washed up on the shore, so
that was a good reason to keep my bare feet out of it more than I wanted.
I'd have liked to just walk on the beach and let the incoming tide wash my
feet.

A very nice visit with family and break from home.

A beautiful site for a wedding.

Sea Bright, or according to our directions, the real city that is known is
Rumson NJ. Windows on the Water is right on Ocean Ave. There is an inlet
across Ocean Ave from there and the current was very fast. Almost like a
rapid. I guess due to the bad weather lately.

Thanks! We just adore the two new wives of my 2 cousins, and the new
husband of my niece.

You couldn't have picked a more beautiful day here, even if it
started out chilly. Thanks for the pictures and the food story.

No Sex Pistols then? :-)

I am flabbergasted at the sight of palm trees in your photo.
In NEW JERSEY? Who knew? (Are you sure that's where you were?)

Sounds like a wedding to remember! I've never been to a wedding on
the beach. Lucky you and congratulations to the newly weds.

My niece's last year was on the beach, too. That day was REALLY hot though.
This was perfect.

And years ago, my sister planned her wedding for the beach in Ocean City MD
in late March. In MD, March can be winter or it can almost feel like early
summer at times. She didn't get lucky because a nor'easter came through
that day. An hour before the wedding and she's trying to decide whether to
go through with the wedding on the beach. Really? It was snowing sideways!
She went for her plan B after all.

Yeah, we commented about that, too, and wondered if they bring in new ones
every year. Probably do.

And Bon Jovi, of course.

The best man did his "reading" to the new couple at the end of the ceremony.
He read them "Jersey Girl". It was pretty funny to hear it spoken rather
than sung.
