I've heard this story a million times, from Real People with Real Names. They know exactly who borrowed the money, usually the ex-wife, back when they were married. And the divorce settlement specified who would pay for what. And they signed it, as well as the original loan agreement. Of course, maybe it wasn't the ex-wife. Maybe it was a best friend (the no good bum) or a kid (with no credit and one week on the job). By cosigning the loan, they were told that they were equally responsible. Well, that's no fun. So don't sign. If this actually was identity theft, Mr. Anonymous wouldn't be writing this post to a food group. He would just get it cancelled. -- Dan Abel Petaluma, California USA |
