Default Do Not Reply To the Trolls

When ever you DO reply to the trolls, don't cross post to all the cross
posted news groups in their headers as before you know it, this place will
be swamped. Better still, don't reply as well and kill file them as they
appear and sooner or later this place will be clean of them.

I disagree with the part about removing the cross-posts. Some people have
filters to remove messages with excessive cross-posts or to block specific
groups. Removing them defeats those.

In fact, the best idea is to get a newsreader with those capabilities. I say
that even though present circumstances have reduced me to using OE for the
time being, which can't.

OE is the only newsreader installed here. They have gotten serious about not
allowing any unapproved third-party software to be installed. When I get the
time (which be in exceedingly short supply these days) I'll cobble together
my own newsreader.

Outlook express is removed from all computers where I work, and NNTP isn't
allowed past the firewall. Some say use the alternate ports, but the
firewall blocks both 119 and 563. Even news providers that offer 443 or
even 80 get blocked. Our only choice at work is google groups. Needless to
say I don't bother at work. Heck, I don't have time anyway.
