What...you believe everything on Google search is true? I'm pretty
sure the OP wanted some recommendations from people here on this NG
that have actually been there. Anyone can write a review. -sigh

The only eatery I know of in NJ is Medieval Times- in Lyndhurst- about
an hour from Edison by car. I know a few folks who enjoyed the
spectacle. It isn't my cup of tea.
http://www.medievaltimes.com/

I can't help with a restaurant in NJ- but I can make some suggestions.
Answering these questions might help folks help you;

1. Got a price point?
2. Want plain or fancy?
3. how long will you be there?
4. Family, romantic, or just want some food?
5. Do you like some ethnic kind of food?
6. Do you have a car?
7. How far from Edison are you willing to go?

I've had limited success looking in the online guides and reading
reviews-- taken with a grain of salt.

There may be an Edison newsgroup or forum out there somewhere.

Edison has a large Indian population and there are quite a few good
Indian restaurants there.

I have been to both of these a number of times:

http://www.akbarrestaurant.com/

http://www.jhupdirestaurant.com/

I have been to this Japanese place and it was good:

There is another Japanese place I have been to but that is good. I can't
remember the name but will post it if I do.

Good Korean he

I have a lot of suggestions, but it would help if I knew what you were
seeking and if you will have a car to get around easily .

Indian? Chinese? Korean? Mediterranean? Vietnamese?

Fancy, informal, cheap, special dinner?

There are a lot of really great restaurants down there. When one of my
kids was at Rutgers, we had a blast at Edison restaurants.

Yeah, and it's the size of your head. I wouldn't bother with
that anyway, though I did order that once.

Speaking of the area by Rutgers a friend told me about a mom & pop
Oaxacan Mexican place in New Brunswick. It is in what used to be an old
time neighborhood restaurant in a big white house in a mostly
residential area. Long counter on the left with the grill on the other
side and tables on the right. Menu was in Spanish and the food was
fantastic. I can't remember the name at the moment. I did some
searching and it is El Oaxaqueno on Drift Street.

I'll check with the kid, who only goes down once a week as he is close
to finishing up the Masters. Maybe he wants company on one of those
treks.

Oaxacan food is really wonderful. Great moles from Oaxaca. Nice
pottery, too.

Tastee Sub Shop, since the early sixties. Good enough that the
president went there about a month ago.

The Frog and the Peach, in New Brunswick.

The restaurant row on the main street of Metuchen ( a boro entirely
surrounded by Edison Twp.).

Drive to Princeton for more.

I always look at Chowhound or Tripadvisor for restos in a strange
area. I have never been sorry when I selected something from their
reviews.

I've also posted some of my own - they DO publish reviews on the duds,
so I figure they are all on the level..

Edison is near Somerset, which we went to earlier this year.
There is a very good (and different) Indian restaurant in
Somerset. Check it out:

Without prices their menu is sorta useless and also makes me
suspicious... so I checked their take-out menu, it has prices
alright... only a dumkoff is gonna pay $9 for a serving of plain old
meatless rice n' beans, one can only imagine their in-house prices and
their menu choices didn't impress me, all their chicken dishes sound
like mcnuggets, their fish just says fish, not what fish... what
pictures they do show are of very tiny portions.

Heh! I forgot to mention that we ate at their glorious buffet.

It is kind-of similar to (although smaller than) my favorite
Indian restaurant in this area. It has a GREAT buffet and is
crowded with folks from India. The food is fresh, and the
offerings are frequently unusual. I have seen tiny lamb chops and
quail. I only went at night once because the prices are really
high, and you don't get the variety that you get at the buffet
(unless you have scads of money).

It is on 260 drift St.

Here is a Google street view. It is the white building on the corner
with the canopy.
