![]() >>> I lost my girl cat to coyotes a couple weeks ago. We live in an area so rural that the coyotes dig up my gopher traps and take gopher, trap, and all. We have had them in our yard. We have a cat, and two small dogs, and TRY to be aware of them, but keep them in at night, and put down the dog door. NO ONE can keep up with a cat or dog 24/7 no matter what they say. I know mine, and there are many times that they are not where I think they are. Still, if it's going to happen, it's going to happen. This year, we have so many coyotes, I'm considering investigating the bounty, and making some cash. People do intentionally abusively leave animals out. Other times, it is the pet. I had a Corgi that we had put down a couple of months ago due to health problems. He was 11. Some nights, he would not come in, preferring to sleep outside in his thick fur coat. You could not MAKE that dog do anything, so we'd leave him out with the doggie door open for an emergency escape route. Had a big lab/Rott mix was the same. She passed about a year ago with cancer. I pity the poor coyote who picked on either one of them. He was a fireplug shaped chainsaw. And she was all Rott when mad. Steve Heart surgery pending? Read up and prepare. She now has a walking jacket which cats are >not supposed to be able to get out of. But getting the cat in to it is >really next to impossible. So she has never tried it out. Do not ever put your cat outside in a pen, there is no such thing as a safe pen for house cats... there are all sorts of frivolous pens and tubes sold for cats to play in outside, that the cat can't escape makes it bait, larger preditors can easily break in. House cats possess zero outside survival skills. There is no reason for a pet cat to ever be taken outdoors other than in a carrier... do not ever walk your cat on a leash... anyone who walks their cat on a leash has a far lower IQ than their cat. When a cat tries to get outside it's because it has been periodically let outside (especially on a leash). Anyone who has a pet cat needs to escape proof their house, a simple thing to do. I'm positive that idiot put his cat out previously, that was not the first time, but unfortunately (for the cat) it was the last time... the coyote got the wrong prey, shoulda slaughtered Paul's kids... still time for Paul to contract a terminal illness, I can hardly wait... Paul is much too dumb to deserve to be alive. |

I have never shot an animal that I didn't pick up and eat. Nor has my son. What is interesting is that some folks are so psychotic and deranged they don't realize that they are the sicko and the rest of the world is actually somewhat sane. The definition of "psychosis", really. Either way, it's always sad whan someone loses a pet. I love my dog and miss my old girl (14 yoa mutt, Abbey) I had to put down last May. Thanks for taking in a stray anyway. You probably made its life. Farm cats live outside, and my neighbor's two barn cats are 12 and 14 yoa respectively. Not the filthy critters you might expect, either. Clean and friendly. It's people who live in a house with 4 or more cats that I think are abusing the animals. Disgusting!! I wouldn't let my dog inhabit such a place. I can't kill Brooklyn, though. His stupidity in the guise of intelligence is the funniest thing this forum has delivered to me. Thanks, Shel, for the good times. So long as you do what's in the best interest of your animal to your best judgement, I'm okay with that. Someone with a house full of animals critiqueing an owner who lets a cat out is obviously out of touch with reality. I guess that's humorous, on some level. I don't find losing a pet humorous in any way, though. I've never owned a house cat, but I have noticed the outdoor ones (two farm cats) around me live long and well, despite coyotes. They know to get into the barn at night; tricky. Better than being cooped up in an infested dump. |

The people who bred her that I rescued her from sound like that. They have had 3 litters since march and they're all living out of their garage. We are always finding dead kitties in the gutter. I'm sure they will have a new litter soon. And they have a sign on their door that says "Animal Rescue Home". We had to powerwash a kitty's blood off of our sidewalk the same day Tidbit passed away. The same family has a Husky, like we do who they keep outside all of the time. He got off of his lead and killed one of their kittens on our property. Called Animal control but they said there was nothing they could do. -- Currently reading: the thirteenth tale by Diane Setterfield |

The best way to deal with that freak is to killfile him like you did if he annoys you. Some people don't care and that's their choice. His posts are nothing more than clutter IMO. Lou |

I just tried Googling to verify that last part, but cannot find any such thing. Were you posting under a different name? Bob |

I did a search as well and couldn't find anything...I do remember someone (think it was chatty cathy) telling me he doesn't suffer fools gladly which seemed like an insult at the time, but I'm sure I was just being too sensitive. Whatever, I'm not going back and forth anymore on it. It's a waste of time that I could be chatting about food. My skin has to be thicker for usenet. -- Currently reading: the thirteenth tale by Diane Setterfield |

I think the ability to see a poster's name, or a subject like "HOW TO SEDUCE A SHEEP" and being able to just pass is also handy. Then there's the simple concept of filtering. Got a cheap turkey today. Brined it for 3 days and will bag it tomorrow. Thanksgiving is just the culmination. If you breast a turkey yourself you can make a delicious tenderloin (thick) and people will confuse it for pork. Turkey is great medium rare. I just love the legs, because the wild ones I usually get don't have very cookable legs. Good for the dogs, though, if you find a good spot to hide the bone without them eating it. My dog loves the tendons and they work like floss. Boil the heck out of 'em, though. The broth is worth saving, though, as it's a perfect base for gravies and soups. Great with mushroom powder and turkey fat. |
