It's one of those "only a guy would think it's a good idea" type
things. I noticed one of them roped his teenaged daughter into
lighting it - so they had their token woman.

Did they throw a wife into whatever fire later? Only then I might

After the wooden table burned, the fire was going out, as there was
nothing left to burn.

sf says there was a female. I watched three times, and that thing was
definitely human, but whether there was a male or female body inside
that baggy clothing was not possible for me to tell.

It was not a cooking demonstration. Thermite is what they used to burn
down whole cities in WWII.
