{Russian} dressing, {Russian} caviar or {Russian} tea rooms.... I'm
tired of {Russian} spam, so guess which word is filtered as of now.

New RFC Rule: We can't talk about anything Russian.

Wayne... Couldn't you tell which word stars in what little spam I'm
seeing on my news server? It was an FYI in the form of a joke. Ginny
"got it". To be blunt, if a thread has the word Russian in the title
- it won't matter how interesting it is, where it drifts or who
participates, I won't see it until the Russian invasion is over and I
delete that filter.

I know of what you speak, as soon as I killfile a thread about 'Do you need
Russian virgin for a bride'.....I get another one asking if I need a Russian
doctor to 'give me bigger penis'.....I'm with sf on this one, I'm ready to
go Bolshevik on their asses. I'm waiting for the Russians to start peddling
Chinese sneakers and sports jerseys (another bane of email/newgroup
existence).

I've never seen one. Are they crossposted to more than 2 groups?
That makes my bozo-bin.

Maybe individual.net filters them before they get to me. I see
little spam. [trolls I get-- and after I KF them it seems I still get
5 copies of their crap in other's replies to them]

You are ready to go "majority" on their asses?

Bolshevik, from bol'shinstvo (= majority) same root as Bolshoi (= big), in
comparison to menshevik, from men'shinstvo (= minority).

Even so, "go bolshie" was a common British English expression, a bit
like "go postal", and obviously comes from Russian Bolsheviks and their
habits. Communists were also referred to as "Bolshies".As the song says;
"Harry was a Bolshie, one of Lenin's lads
'Til he was foully murdered by reactionary cads"

If she had said Bolshie I wouldn't have commented. That should be obvious.

Maybe not. We're on different servers. That's what's slipping by on
mine. I tweaked my KF and I'm Russian spam free now, but I'm also not
going to see any legitimate thread with that word in the title. I
know it's not a word we commonly use here, so I made a little joke
about it... it was done in the vane of if someone tells you not to
think about something, that's all you can think about afterwards.

Why should I know that? I know *now* because 2 other folks from
individual.net have said they don't see them. But indy doesn't send
us a list of what they are filtering-- and every once in a while a
spammer/scammer/troll gets a new idea on how to get pass individual's
filters for a few days.

Still-- you can't beat $15 a year for nearly spamfree Usenet.

The occasional Russian wife scam but if i were going to filter a country
by name it would be for all the Chinese spam. Filter anything .cn that
comes in.

And not that im a sinophobe but because of the plethora of Chinese
commercial spaming that takes place. Though in my email box Canada is
the worst offender

Noooo! That was my way of throwing out a broad hint about which word
I'd killfiled w/o making the usual "I just kill filed x" announcement
and hoped it was taken in a light hearted way. Oh, well. That one
went over like a lead balloon.

I would do that except some crossposted threads are legitimate and
they are crossposted to appropriate newsgroups. For me, it's easier
to just kill key words as I figure them out.

I don't get enough spam to care about switching. Most days I don't
have any spam at all. It just so happens that "Russian" is a new one
that has evaded my news provider's spambots the last couple of days
and therefore fodder for jokes by me.

Nor I. Since Cox quit their newsgroup feed, I switched to Agent's APN
and the spam quotient has ratcheted down considerably. Haven't seen
anything with "Russian" in the header except this thread with regular
posters' comments.

Really? You may have figured out already that my news server is also
APN. I'll switch the filter to x number of days w/o the key word so I
don't have to delete it manually, thanks.

Odd. I don't have a filter on the word "Russian" yet see none of this
spam mail you're speaking of.
Yay me!

Let's all watch Doctor Zhivago and drink our tea from tall thin glasses

So there's another knock off brand on the market now in addition to
Treet? Thrills.

I'll make a point of calling them Polish perogies and Russian peroshkies
then.

Word up, Wayne - since I started using APN when Cox flaked, the spam
level is way, way down. And yesterday, Cox internet *and* cable was
out for about 2 hours. No idea why that happened nor was there any
word from Cox about the outage.

i'm not surprised. usenet is usenet.news' business, not just an
afterthought as it was with cox.
