Default soem facts about guns

"Homicide rates tend to be related to firearm ownership levels.
Everything else being equal, a reduction in the percentage of
households owning firearms should occasion a drop in the homicide
rate".
Evidence to the Cullen Inquiry 1996: Thomas Gabor, Professor of
Criminology - University of Ottawa

"The level of gun ownership world-wide is directly related to murder
and suicide rates and specifically to the level of death by gunfire."
International Correlation between gun ownership and rates of homicide
and suicide.' Professor Martin Killias, May 1993.

Guns and Suicide
Data on suicide and firearms from other countries can be viewed as a
warning to us in the UK of some of the effects of firearm possession.
Most articles show that the storage of a firearm in the home predicts
an increased rate of a violent death. The articles have been
referenced so that those interested can obtain further information.

Firearms Incidents
Behind all the statistics are the actual incidents that result in the
suffering of innocent people and animals. These lists reveal the
consequence of the continued misuse of firearms.

Massacres and Legally-Held Firearms
Worldwide, the majority of recent shooting massacres have been
committed with legally-held weapons.

Why the **** do you care? If somebody wants to kill themselves, it's their
business, not yours and not anybody else's.

umm, disagree. suicide leaves someone, some family, friends behind
it is a horrible thing for anyone

when I was in hs, a firend of mine came home to find his mother's body
in the running car in their garage

needless to say he was devastated, you can only imagine and the worse
thing is the blame spoken and unspoken, "what did I do?" what should
I have done

Like I said, it is a very horrible thing

Life can be a horrible thing to. There's a point where the pain is so bad
that dying is a better option.

remember one thing, no matter how you feel right now, no one, and I
mean no one really knows what is out there

Oh, so you don't need a gun to take your own life? Hmm. I don't buy the research you cite, just based on experience. When I lived in a major American city, I knew people who got shoot all of the time. The per capita gun ownership there was nothing compared to where I now live (rural area in the upper midwest). My neighbors here own all kinds of guns and we have a murder rate similar to Singapore. We don't lock our doors, we can leave our keys in the car, and our kids play outside whenever they wish, in full safety.

Firearms around might only make it more likely that a suicider uses a gun, not less likely to carry out the act.

Maybe we should make cars illegal since someone suicided that way.

The second ammendment doesn't stutter. Perhaps many of the tyrants around the world could not have gotten a foothold had the populace been armed. Enjoy your gun-free world. All I have are hunting weapons, but I teach my kids how to use and store them.

Hard to blame the gun for the actions of a few, though.

This was the article you were referring to:

"Real Progress on reducing violent crime:
The need for stricter gun control

Green Party press office briefing"

Yeah, judging by the title, this is real research. When "research" sets our to prove or disprove something, it is not scientific research, rather a news story. Opinions do not a fact make.

Little quote from another article you cited.

"In 1993 a Swiss professor, Martin Killias, published a study of 18 countries concerning gun ownership, homicide and suicide. He in part concluded there was a weak correlation between total homicide and gun ownership. "

Keep babblin', Brooke.

Are you trying to say that GM is going to manufacture firearms??
Or are you just crossposting your off topic trash everywhere...

Maybe a GM firearm would be a good thing.. It probably wouldnt
work very well, and would self destruct in short order.

I got a deer two years ago with my GM pickup. The deer was nice and
tender.
So who needs guns when you have a truck.

Some comedian does a whole bit on that. Talks about how every year
his brother takes vacation time to get up at 4am and dons piles of
expensive camo clothing to go out and wait for the off chance he may
get a deer. Tells how his brother brags his gun launches a one-third
of and inch dia bullet, travelling at 2500 feet per second, and can
kill a deer at 300 yards. The comedian then goes on to tell how he
can get into his 20 yr old pickup truck and traveling at about 38 mph
can bag deer all day long within 50 ft of his front door, or something
along those lines. It's hilarious.
