Royal canin is better than purina for sure but is not that great.

Compare with

Cost means little with dog food in the end. Sure the real 'crap' is cheap
but much of the so called 'expensive' is crap too. The 'Royal Canin' you
get costs more here than Blue Wilderness.

Here's a canned version

The BW dry had a recall of a few bags, none sold in my area and they were
very upfront about it all. Royal Canin has had several and are very quiet
about it.

Your version was still being recalled for Melamine in 2007. BW was recalled
by it's own company only once and in Oct 2010 for having a little too much
Vitamin D in one limted run affecting several versions.

Thanks, I will take a good look at other foods. I looked at what the little
rat eats and his bag was not on any of the recalls. Three stars... I will
look for five star next time. Not sure what other stores have. I went
through about six foods before trying the Royal Canin the first two years,
he has been on RC for four years now. I often wonder if he kept throwing up
because of the massive dog food recalled by many companies that had food
from china that caused many dogs to die.... And Cats.

Food cost for a Yorkie is not really that much... But the grooming cost
$35/month!!!!

After all, I still want my dog to eat better than many Americans

Thanks for that Carol. I decided to go look up and see if we have an

04.Home made pet diet

Below is a home-made diet for your pet, formulated by Professor David
Fraser of Sydney University, which provides tasty and balanced nutrition
for healthy adult dogs and cats.

You can make it in the amounts shown here and refrigerate or freeze a few
day's worth, depending on your pet's requirements. It would also be useful
to supplement your pets diet with raw bones for teeth health.

Adult dog

550 g boiled potato
350 g lean meat (lightly stewed)
80 g cooked human-grade sheep or beef liver*
20 g corn oil
20 g bone meal**
5 g table salt

Mix all the ingredients together and feed it to your pet once a day.
Amount to feed each day according to body weight:
Dog weight Food
5 kg 270 g
10 kg 460 g
15kg 620 g
20 kg 770 g
25 kg 900 g
30 kg 1000 g

* A vitamin supplement can be used instead of the liver
**Bone meal can be found in certain healthfood stores and is an excellent
source of calcium.

Adult cat

250 g boiled potato
600 g lean meat (lightly stewed)
100 g cooked human-grade sheep or beef liver*
20 g corn oil
25 g bone meal**
5 g table salt

Mix all the ingredients together and feed it to your pet once a day.
Amount to feed each day according to body weight:
Cat weight Food
2 kg 100 g
2.5 kg 120 g
3 kg 140 g
4 kg 190 g
4.5 kg 210 g
5 kg 240 g

* A vitamin supplement can be used instead of the liver
**Bone meal can be found in certain healthfood stores and is an excellent
source of calcium.
