Default A reverse grocery list

I discovered that I had doubles and triples of a lot of certain things
on hand, mainly cuz I'd bought extras in error or took advantage of
sales.
Now on my fridge I keep a running list of things I DON'T need, such as
EVO, oatmeal, peppercorns, oregano, ( have enuf for 20 years) etc.
Keeps me from buying even more of the same.

Saves tying up more money and space. HTH.

Your experience is one reason I keep a grocery list and when I go to
the store I don't buy anything that is not on the list. ...unless I
come across a really unbeatable deal on meat or wine or such.

I have learned to check when my husband says, "We are out of...". We never
are.

When the responsibility of buying the family's groceries fell to me, I
typed a list of everything we typically shopped for, arranged by the
aisles in the National. Then, before I went shopping, I made a pencil
mark by everything we were close to running out of. I could get in and
out in no time, and we never had to worry about where to store stuff
or when to eat it.

"Oregano" just caught my eye. I learned that dried herbs have a shelf
life by accidentally buying some more when we still had some. I like
to replace them every year to get the fullest flavor.

i had an inventory of what was in the freezer and when we got it or made it,
same for kitchen freezer everything else was right in the kitchen so when we
did the list it was easy for dh to check and it went even faster once i
discovered the on line ads, so he could just take my printed list and check
with everything else and mark something off if we shouldn't buy it, Lee

hahaha, I say, thinking of my multiple jars of roasted chili (sic,

When I was feeling more wealthy I could shop that way.....right now I
have to watch my expenses, that's one reason
I make a list and stick to it. Keeps me from impulse buying and
spending money I shouldn't.

I have two non-perishable items that I intend to return sitting on the
counter right now. Luckily I discovered my mistake before I threw the
receipt away.

Making a weekly list of things I don't need would prevent me from
living, that list would be so long I'd not have time to pee... imagine
a list of every item Walmart, Lowe's and several other large shopping
emporiums stock except for a handful of items from each store stock
that I do need... wouldn't it make more sense to keep a list of just
those few items you do need? Normal folks make a list of what they DO
need, not what they DON'T need. Are you sure you haven't been
diagnosed with OCD (Obssessive Compulsive Disorder). You gotta be so
anal retentive that you only shit once a decade.

You've been hiding stuff again. It happens at our place as well. I go
to the cupboard to get X. It's not there so the next time I am at the
store I get X and put it away in its place. Then I go to the cupboard
to get X .... One day I look in a completely random place and there
are twenty or so X all stacked neatly together! It's a conspiracy.

On multiples stored in the same place, I write "1 of 3, 2 of 3, etc"
so i know when I've opened my last jar or can. I do this with
cranbery sauce - I can't bear to sit down to chicken in any form and
not have it.
I do it with tomato paste too.

Those I'd keep - hedge against inflation? and just make a note
somewhere that you have em, or give away ink a food drive, or work
into a meal. Unless, you paid a lot for em and won't use em in the
next ten years.

I'll overlook your last comment. Yes, AR, admittedly. And I DO have
a needed list. I just didn't want to forget the extras I have tucked
here and there and keep thinking I needed em.

I use a roll of adding machine paper for that. It used to hang on the
wall, but it's just sitting on my counter (next to the toaster) now.
It also holds my pencil, very handy.

You might want to reconsider your posting style. Top posting a
compound, complex, run on sentence without punctuation or
capitalization is really more irritating than your posts are worth,
IMHO. It's just a wall of words.

OB: It seems to me that March is the month you suffer through to
finally get to spring produce. Looking forward to fruit and veggies
that are fresh picked, not green picked and shipped from distant

Exactly. And who hasn't bought something at the store because it
sounded good at the time, but then the mood passed?

Well if it were 1990 you could probably look up a stationery store in
the Yellow Pages, but I dunno, does Staples carry such items? I
haven't seen adding machine paper in over 20 years : D

It's like the rolls of paper they put in cash registers. We used to
be able to get it at stationary stores, but they don't exist now. I
got whole a bunch of rolls at once, so I haven't needed to buy any for
years. This is my last roll so I'll have to keep an eye out for it
now. They used to have calculators that used it. Maybe Office Depot
or someplace like that carries it.

Storage space is at a premium in my kitchen. Remember, I said I

See: I knew trimming posts wasn't all that netiquette cracked it up to
be.
In context I read it as "cranberry season."

I forget who has what in my family. My DIL's mother works for Apple,
so they have a lot of Apple products in their house, but I don't
remember if DIL uses an iPhone or a smart phone. DD's workplace
switched over to Apple computers last year. She used to have a
Blackberry (aka: Crackberry) as her work phone when they were PC, but
I don't remember if they switched over to iPhones or not. Husband
loves gadgets, so if one of them has an iPhone - he would have it.
So, I took the easy way out and sent everyone a blanket email about
the app. Thanks!

I like cranberry jelly better than the canned whole cranberry sauce.
Sauce it just way too sweet. I've never taken the time to melt it and
maybe add some lemon or lime to it to tart it up a bit. Some day,
I'll think about doing that before it's time to sit down to dinner and
eat.

I will.

Lee, aka Stormee, is vision afflicted. I don't know if that is blind,
partially blind, whatever. She uses software that helps her post on
usenet and it's not always rfc (or any other group) compliant. She
top posts. Regardless, she's a sweethart and deserves a pass.

Lee, I apologize for speaking out of place, but I know you from other
groups and jes wanted the good folks here on rfc to know. If I
haven't said it before, I say it now. Welcome aboard.
