Default Nabbed at Customs

It's so much easier to just use FedEx or UPS and send stuff home. Ho hassles.

Doesn't it still have to go through customs?

True, but the cost often makes it prohibitive. It is is an item readily
available through an importer and retailer, the landed cost is often the
same or less than using freight.

I do not recommend mail though. Often the items just never arrive. This
is true of Italy and the UK that I've had personal experience with.

The conventional wisdom says to mail stuff home from the Vatican when
in Italy -- I did so and received my souvenirs safely.
