One of these days I may actually buy one if it's cheap enough. Mostly, my problem is that I don't make mashed potatoes very often and that it's a pretty large device to store. |

People who are too lazy to type either "Name" or "Pseudonym" use it. There is no way to tell which meaning is meant unless you can figure it out from the context of the surrounding verbiage. Why not just take the extra 2 seconds to type the word you mean? I type relatively slowly at about 40 wpm, and I can type "Pseudonym" in less than 3 seconds. As I said, people who use the texting abbreviations are the vast minority of Usenet users. Its irritating to most. |

But you can squish lots of things with it as well as make gnocchi. Some people make spaetzle with it, although they are skinny ones. |

I use my hands to roll a rope, and a fork to make the gnocchi. It is pretty easy, once you get the rythm going ! Rosie |

I have one and it's impossible to use. It's a two handed operation that takes a lot of effort and I still can't get all the potato out of it. I guess if you're a guy with big hands who wants to impress people with your strength, it might work for you - but it doesn't for me. If you really *want* some kind of a ricer, you can get it in a masher size. http://oi56.tinypic.com/11jw6pu.jpg I have a similar one that I've used in the past, but I've found that it's not necessary if you cook the potato correctly. Those people who "like" lumpy mashed potatoes were brought up on undercooked potatoes that were mashed. Horrible stuff. I *hate* it. ![]() I like and prefer using an old fashioned zig zag masher. http://oi54.tinypic.com/2hx6kn8.jpg I mash the potatoes with it and then whip them with it to get them light & fluffy. The learning curve, for me, was how much liquid to add - but I have it right now. -- Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground. |

I never noticed any problem with the posting, nor did I know about the visual impairment. I assume it gets mentioned occasionally, but I don't ready every topic. I participate in another group with a guy whose sig states "Richard The Blind Typer" It does take long for newbies to figure out that his posts have some odd spellings (usually a different version of a word, such as witch vs which, that kind of thing). But we know why and it's no problem. So, we may harass people who post with cell phone chat style, but we don't mess with him. |

The same technology that permits the visually impaired to type at the top permits them to type anywhere on the page... also permits them to capitalize... they can use every key on a keyboard. The computer more than any other device has made it possible for people with every type of handicap to function and be perceived as though they have no handicap. |

Perhaps with extensive voice training they could help the visually impaired, but I have my doubts. == |
