Okay, I'll give you that.

Me too. I expressed this hate one time and got a barrage of emails
from Chemo the Clown berating me for not loving tattoos. What a
loser.

I find those that are against tattoos are usually self righteous
individuals that love to tell others how to live their life. I am all for
freedom of speech and expression for all without hating those that do or
those that do not.

We're as free to express our opinion about tattoos and other forms of
body disfigurement as you are to do it to yourself.

Ahh... I see. A tattoo is the new uniform to express oneself and letting
the world know that they are open minded free thinkers.

I have never seen a tattoo that I was impressed with. I will admit that
they look better when they are new than they do when they get old and
faded and start disappearing into fat, wrinkly skin. Anyone
contemplating getting a tattoo should be reminded that they are
permanent and that looks attractive on young skin will not look good on
grandma skin

FWIW... I was at the gym today and there was a woman who had one of
those very original barbed wire tattoos on her upper arm, and probably
had. it down around the time Pamela Anderson had her's done. It is no
longer a deep black. It was more grey-blue. and it jiggled when she
moved her arms.

I don't understand the concept of "hating" tattoos. I certainly
understand not wanting one. I don't want one. I'm not a big fan of
them. Still, I can enjoy looking at most tattoos. I mentioned this one
earlier, and I *am* impressed with it:

"Old" depends on the perception of the person thinking "Old".

To a 5 year old, anyone 18 or older is "Old"

To an 80 year old, a person who is 100 is really "Old"

I'm 58 and I believe I'm pretty young in comparison to many, many
others.

Not getting a chance to be "Old" sucks way more than being or getting
"Old".

Getting old is wonderful compared to the alternative.

I can't say that I hate anything. I don't like tattoos and would certainly
never get them. I am usually not offended by them, but once in a while I
will see one that I very much dislike. But for the most part I don't care
if other people get them or not.

Only when people with tattoos proselytize their benefits, otherwise
STFU... I've never met anyone with tattoos trying to convince others
to be tattooed too, not even those who earn their living as
tattooists. In fact whenever anyone queries about my tattoos I tell
them it's something only they can decide and if they need others
approval and/or if they have any doubts whatsoever don't... if anyone
needs to ask then don't. I don't think it's anyones business unless
it's a minor. Body art harms no one. I don't particularly care for
piercings and plastic boobs but who am I to voice my opinion unless
asked. What harms more people more than anything else, especially
something so benign as bodyart, is religion... religion, all religion,
harms more people than all other plagues/poxes combined. There is no
such thing as a peaceful religion, all religion by its very nature is
violent, in fact nothing occuring on this planet is more violent,
there is nothing else man can ever devise that'll be more violent...
every weapon man has devised including nuclear has been to promote one
religious belief over another... it's all and only about my god is
better than your god... can't get any lower IQ, same IQ as sheep.. no
different than arguing whose shit don't stink.

Exactly. No one age is better than another. It's not about how long
one lives it's about how one lives. I think it's more advantageous to
focus on the here and now... people who live in the past are already
dead. Didja ever notice how people with terminal illnesses only care
to reminisce and constantly peruse photographs of long dead relatives.

I like chicks with the body art of artificially enhanced super sized boobs.
Just like the mad scientist in "Woody Allen's movie: Everything you wanted

i don't hate tattoos, they just aren't for me, what you do with your own
body is up to you... and i thought we just had a huge discussion about the
word hate and how it was so horrible to hate things,... seems to me that if
someone wants tattos its up to them... the fact that i don't find them
attractive or a good health choice is my opinion and shouldn't affect your
opinion unless you ask my opinion, otherwise it should not affect anone but
me...Lee

The mental turmoil that most people go through when facing the end of
their lives is perfectly natural and has happened since time began.

Most often they look into their past to reflect on their lives, not to
try reliving it.

Deeply religious people might wish to review their lives to assure
themselves that they have done nothing to warrant what they think
might be eternal damnation.

Some may do it just to relive the memory of a wonderful time that they
had. I certainly wouldn't begrudge them that final pleasure of that is
what makes them more at ease with their fate.

I live each day for itself. My life is very simple. I love tinkering
with all manner of things and keep myself very busy doing so. I've
heard others say; "I'll get so bored if I retire". All I have to say
to that is they must not have many interests. I've been retired now
for 2 years and have loved every single minute of it. I've been so
busy I don't know where to turn next! What a blast!

Sheldon and people like him want to be in other people's faces with
their body art, but they can't take it when someone says it's just
body disfigurement. Too bad, so sad.

She has nice boobs. Her tattoo is ugly, but at least she has an

Do you feel the same way about piercings? Hair coloring? Hair cuts?
Cutting finger and toenails? Plastic surgery? Botox?

I think that tats are no more or less than close fitting clothing that
has been chosen by the individual for its design, theme and colors.

I can't imagine hating it any more than hating a dress that a women
might be wearing or a shirt that someone has on.

I might disagree with the theme of the tat or if it had some sort of
obscenity in it, but just because its ink under the skin instead of
cloth over the skin, it just makes no sense to me to hate them.

At what age did you decide that you hated tats, sf? I'm really
curious. Was there an event that spawned this hatred of all tats?

I mention this because I grew up seeing tats all over my Dad. He was a
career navy man and of the "old" Navy. The sailor then who had no tats
was considered the exception. My Dad had over one hundred of them on
his body.

Every ship he served on and the dates. All of his children and their
birth dates. Many were superstitions, like a pig on the top of one
foot and a chicken on top of the other because it was believed at that
time that neither of those creatures would drown when shipwrecked.

He had one done in China that covered his entire chest. An eagle,
snake and dragon entwined. It was beautiful artwork and would even be
wonderful looking on canvas.

Please, tell me what prompted you to actually "hate" something that is
nothing more than ink. How can one hate ink unless it is used to say
something hateful?

Please understand that I'm not "getting in your face" over this. I'm
simply curious about why you would hate something like tats. I mean, I
hate some things. I hate bullies. I hate it when someone is oppressed.
I hate cruelty to animals or humans. I hate it when someone steals
from a person who cannot absorb the theft. My list of things hated is
long, but each thing that I hate has a reason.

Are you willing to discuss with me your reason for hating tats? I hope
so, because I don't understand it.

Now see? We can agree on part of your dislike for this particular tat.
I think its pretty amateurish. It looks to me like a high school kids
drawing and lacks the refinement of a really good tattoo. Too much
open space filled with color. Not enough detail. Hardly anything on it
is interwoven. Its in an odd place on her body. I don't care much for
it as an expression of art and would never have that one put on me.

But I don't hate it. Its that young lady's way of expressing her
feelings. What's to hate? I find it odd that she would put a tat in a
place where she has to lift her arm for anyone to properly see it, but
that's my logical mind thinking, not my emotions.

I think everyone who has read your posts on the subject knows now that
for some reason, you have chosen to hate body ink.

The reason why you hate it is what I'm more interested in. Please
share that if it doesn't make you uncomfortable.

conclusion after you have gotten it... and i don't hate them they just

Modifying ones body in some manner to make it appear more attractive
to oneself and others is a universal action that is in every culture
on our planet.

It can be as simple as clothing, but extends to almost every part of
the body and dozens of methods in every location known to mankind.

In less modern countries, colored mud is applied to the hair to make
oneself look more attractive. Almost all cultures have tattoos. Some,
like in China, are so intricate that one tattoo might take a year to
apply in stages and cover as much as 50% of a persons body.

Modern countries have evolved to make clothing more of a way of
expressing ones personal "art", but applied cosmetics and jewelry are
also very popular. Adorning ones body with precious metals and stones
is very similar to tattooing. So is dressing in a bright, colorful
manner. Both have the same goal as tattoos, but are interchangeable at
a moments whim.

I think a lot of people don't like tattoos because they are, more or
less, a permanent attachment to the body that is applied with needles
to shoot ink under the skin. The thought of doing that is repulsive to
some people. I've had people tell me that. Its a fear, not a like or
dislike really.

I see no difference between someone liking a beautiful piece of art
enough to hang it on the wall of their home for all to see, and
someone liking a drawing enough to have it placed on their body for
all to see. Both are an expression of their mind in that it symbolizes
some part of their inner soul. They have found something that stirs
their emotions for one reason or another and have chosen to announce
that discovery by placing it in a position that puts it into the eyes
of anyone who is either in their home or looking at the home of their
soul; their body.

I reserve my *hate* for things that are much more complicated than the
methods that others use to show their inner feelings. I may dislike a
certain painting or article of clothing, or even someone choice of
tattoo, but I wouldn't ever say that I hate any of them.

Hate is such a strong expression. Its the ultimate in emotional
repulsion and should be reserved for things that deserve its depth.

These of course are nothing more than my feelings and since I'm having
one of my sleepless nights, I thought I would share them.

To bed at 2am...back up at 4am, wide awake. Oh my! I see a nap in my
life later today. Thank goodness I like naps. hehe

the permanace and the degradation are two reasons i will not get one, the
fear of needles in general and the hep c issue are two others, have had a
friend with a liver replacement... hard road that, his was unrelated to tats
or hep c but after watching that process best to not tempt fate for me

Does one always know? Is it important to know? I think it's important to
know why you are prejudiced against a color, race or class but not against
completely avoidable and extraneous self-decoration. I don't like them
either. I don't know why and I don't care why. I try not to let my
feelings slip over onto the person who has tattoos, but I am not sure I
always succeed. I would express myself with temporary ones were I so moved.
I actually did that once. Meh.

Disfigu To mar or spoil the appearance of.

Well, if you thought a tat would spoil the appearance of your body,
then you wouldn't get one. hehe

Others think that it doesn't disfigure but actually improves on the
appearance of their body.

Its all in perception.

So tell me what that girl is saying about her innerself by having a stag and
a gaudy lily under her armpit. Or what about the one who has Disney
cartoons all over her back and chest? Yeah, I pretty much hate that look.

I think it's 'father issues'.

Perhaps the young lady with the stag and lily is reminded of a
wonderful story she loved as a child. It may give her a very good
feeling to look at her tat.

The ones who like to put tats that are cartoons on them? If it gives
them a feeling of joy to look at them or express deeper thoughts
through the "cartoons", then who are we to judge their method of
expression as long as it doesn't harm us?

If you dislike them, then aim your eyes at something that doesn't
offend you.

Hate? What a waste of emotion to hate someone else's expression of
their likes by putting colorful images on their body.
