I used to work with a woman who would put on makeup while driving. I never
understood why she didn't put an eye out with a mascara wand. But this
shaving thing takes the cake!

A couple of years ago on a highway near where I live, a young woman driving
to work was putting on her makeup. She lost control and the car crossed the
median and collided head-on with a large truck. Death was a high price to
pay.

Yup, that's even more bizarre than the guy I followed on our local
interstate who was reading a regular-size newspaper while driving -
even to the extent of opening it up, refolding it and then putting it
back down on the steering wheel. To be honest, the interstate wasn't
wall-to-wall, and cars could go along at a pretty good clip, not
surrounded by lots of traffic. But still!

Here's what the story said:

"So Dunick charged Barnes with driving with a revoked license, reckless
driving, leaving the scene of an accident with injuries and driving with
no insurance. Judy was not charged. "

That was her booking photo on the page.

After 12 yrs of commuting 50-100 mi per day, nothing surprises me.
Reading drivers are far too common. The worst, I viewed from a
commute van I enjoyed for one yr. The reader was reading a hard cover
book. The book was lying open on the car seat BESIDE the driver!
Traffic speeds were 65-75 mph.

I was a truck driver for about 10 years and you get to see all sorts of
things going on in cars. People shave, put on makeup, curl their hair,
eat meals, read newspapers, magazines and books. There were some cell
phones back then but cell use was not as prevalent as it is now.

....and then there's always the in-car sex activities....viewable only
from someone in a tractor cab. LOL. I knew a couple truckers who
told really great stories.

Nonsense.

Six of us on our way to industrial trade show in a big ol' Ford 4-dr
sedan on Nimitz freeway, me in right rear seat. I jes happened to
glance over to my right and look right into the bright eyes of a
lovely young lass giving an enthusiastic BJ to the driver of a brand
new Jeep w/ canvas top and doors, the doors having plastic windows
down to the Jeep's floor. I chuckled and told the rest of the guys in
our car who did an immediate right face to view said lovely lass going
about her business at exact eye level as all of us and cruising steady
a mere five feet away. We stared. She stared. I never realized,
till then, a girl could manage an ear-to-ear grin with her mouth full!

Ok, Judy wasn't charged. I didn't note the driver's name when I was
reading it. Thanks.

Least of all that. I thought she looked way older than 37.

Well, it was pretty confusing. Judy was the ex-husband of the driver.

When I was a kid, our family doctor was named Judy. Dr. Fred Judy. He
was in practice with his wife, but we never saw her. They were an odd
couple. He was short and thin. She was very large.

I saw lots of of short skirts hiked up but no in car sex going on.
Truckers are full of stories, and most of them are just stories. When I
worked in commercial vehicle enforcement I used to monitor the CB once
in a while. I could not do it more for long periods because there was
too much BS. One day I was in my cruiser and passing a tractor trailer.
The next thing I knew, I am hearing on the CB about how there was a DOT
passing the truck and the driver ... me... was playing games on my
laptop. My brief case was on the passenger seat and and I was tapping
on it in time to the music. I admit that the music was cranked up
pretty loud, but it was not a computer.

Here in CT there was a court case recently. An unmarried couple was in an
accident after leaving a bar. He was killed and the Mercedes sports car was
severely damaged and both were tossed from the car. No one investigating
was able to determine who was driving, but the man's family sued the woman
saying she was driving and liable. Here defense in court: "I could not
have been driving, I was giving him a BJ when we crashed"
