When I get to the head of line, she switches to English with zero hesitation, before I say a word. Maybe because I am whiter than Conan O'Brien. Those years I spent in German class in high school were a complete waste. I wish now I had chosen Spanish instead. It seems completely obvious; I don't know what I was thinking back then. Mostly the Supermarcado sells the same stuff you can get anywhere, but their meat is often cheaper and their produce is a *lot* cheaper. Spinach is an anti-food that nobody should eat. |

In my case it's not that my complexion is all that pale but that I am almost as hairy as wolf man. It makes it easy to guess that I'll except English. I can read Spanish okay and I know the numbers so they could tell me the total in Spanish, but chatting with me isn't going to work. > Those years I spent in German class in high school were a complete > waste. I was thinking that I planned to go into aerospace in my career and that German would be better for it. I did start in aerospace for the first decade of my career. it was worth it. > Spinach is an anti-food that nobody should eat. You've been conspiring with my wife? ;^) |

Many years ago one of my daughters requested some Mexican food for her birthday. I zipped over to Tres Sierras (Mexican Market) for the goods I needed. The female clerk looked at the purchases the at le then at the purchases then at me again and finally said " Buenos Tardes" (Good Afternoon in Spanish) I answered her in Spanish & we continued in Spanish. I guess she figured no Gringo could possibly be purchasing that combination of food. :-) Dimitri(o) |
