Copper River Salmon

I saw this a few hours ago at a local King Soopers/Kroger for...are you
ready for this?...$29.99/lb.

Thanks, but no thanks.

I do usually treat myself to some Copper River salmon during its short
season but that price will probably discourage me this year.

Undoubtedly cuz it's the real deal. If you see CRS for $8-10lb, it's a
scam.

You know what? It wasn't a competition, just a statement.

Last year, my mom was at a store and called to tell me they had
salmon. They had the copper river salmon and steelhead trout, which
was a lot cheaper. I asked for about $20 of the trout. She bought the
copper river salmon. I got a lot less than I was expecting, and it
wasn't that great. I don't know if it was representative of Copper
river salmon, but it didn't impress me as anything great.

We had a friend in town from Ithaca last week, and we took him to Ray's
(in Seattle). Both SO and guest had Copper River salmon, as did most of
the other folks in our area of the restaurant. Since it was the first
week of the run, it was pricey. Our guest's comment: "This sure isn't
what we get in NY." I thought one of the local stores had it on sale
this week, but it turned out to be troll-caught Canadian salmon. In
July we can get Yukon salmon, which is just as good without the
exorbitant marketing price tag.
