Kraft, I believe has out a new mayo that sounds delicious ! It is made
with olive oil and has black pepper in it. Has any one tried this?? I
usually eat Hellman's or Best Food which I understand are the same
thing, but this caught my interest.

I bought a jar, but threw it away. I didn't like it at all. YMMV

make your own. There is a thread here about making your own stick
blender mayo....you can make an olive oil/black pepper mayo that is
way better than storebought.

My mileage didn't.<g>

We had a jar of Olive Oil Mayo-- I don't remember it having pepper in
it. It didn't taste like mayo. The consistency was off and it had a
weird mouth feel. We finally tossed the last 1/2 jar.

My mother bought some kraft mayo that sounded good: it supposedly had lime
in it. It was not as good as Hellman's.

Kraft sucks. I prefer to make my own.

Isn't Kraft the outfit that has come out with that ghastly looking
*cooking creme*? Bleh...

That's all true, but I don't think that all of the crappy stuff that
Kraft makes should make people automatically assume that everything
with their brand is crappy. Their (admittedly whitebread) natural
cheeses are fine. Are they interesting? No, they are consistent.
When one buys a canister of Kraft Parmesan, one knows exactly what one
is getting. Same with Cracker Barrel.
As far as jarred mayo goes, it's all dreadful. It's funny when people
say that Hellman's/Best is so much better than Kraft. That's like
saying that Freshlike canned corn is better than Libby's or Green
Giant. No, it's worse because canned corn isn't particularly bad,
just not as good as frozen, which isn't quite as good as fresh.

You probably won't like it. Think of what you use olive oil for. You can
whip up your own may in a blender. I do it all the time. Just a cup of
netral flavored oil, 2 eggs and a teaspoon of lemon juice. Whz till may
consistency.

<sympathizing> I know how you feel, Gloria... yet I often give in to
laziness and just write "mayo".

Hellman's and Best Food mayo are the same thing. I never understood
why in the western US it is known as Best Food, and in the east it is
called Hellman's.

I haven't bought Hellman's in 30 years. The town I live in,
Greenville SC, is the home of Duke's Mayonnaise, which I like much
better than Hellman's. Duke's is one regional brand that I'm
surprised never went national as it does have a devoted following.
When I moved to Detroit and Cincinnati, I always had to pick up a
couple jars of Duke's Mayo on trips home to take back with me.

This was about 25 years ago, but I used to work right next to the
Duke's Mayo plant, and I got to know one of the guys who worked there
who told me that at one point they were experimenting with producing
colored mayonnaise, putting blue or red food coloring into the
process, but it didn't work as the food coloring always floated to the
top once it settled.

We have it here and I tried it last year after reading about it on
this group. It's ok, flatter tasting than what I was used to though,
so I went back to Kraft. Expensive and disappointing.

According to Wikipedia, their recipes are similar but not identical.
However, Dryer's Ice Cream is called Edy's back East and the two are
identical.
