I googled for Boca burgers here and didn't come up with grocery
stores, just restaurants.

I bought them at the military commissary most of the time but I think other
stores like Albertsons sell them.

Thanks, Julie... if PVC can tell me where to buy Boca *burgers* here
(in town - not outside city limits), I've love the information.
Hey... I might even buy them.

product line's website as the first five hits...

How the **** should I know what groceries carry Boca Burgers where you
live? Go find them yourself. I simply provided that Boca Burgers
information could be found on a Google search.

I can't imagine any local (to sf) stores not having Boca Burgers.
I bought some today at Target. They are everywhere. (I do not usually
buy Boca, preferring Dr. Praeger's but Boca are higher-protein and I've
been trying to get more protein into my diet lately.)

We love the Sunshine Burgers. No, they do not taste like meat. They taste
like beans which is what they are made of. I like the Southwest and
daughter likes the BBQ.

Boca Burgers can be hard to find at stores with vast freezer sections,
such as Lucky's/Albertsons/Von's. Sometimes they are near the other
veggie/healthy items like Amy's, but sometimes they are over by the
frozen hamburgers and chicken patties.

I hadn't heard of Boca before. Sometimes regional brands are spoken
about here as if they were national brands. I've eaten a veggie
burger exactly once in my life and have NEVER bought them for home.
So shoot me.

Yeah. Our Albertsons has the fish sticks in a totally different area of the
store than the other frozen foods. Weird.

It's not a regional brand. They've been around for YEARS! I bought them
all the time when I was in the bay area.

Julie, from your posts, I can tell that you are a fine cook. You have
a wide range of food tastes and are very adept in many types of
cooking.

I don't understand why you would settle for the bland, boxed veggie
patties like Boca. Sure, they're handy if you're in a hurry, but if
you make your own, they will out-shine anything in a box.

All these Foodies buying boxed, pre made stuff like Boca veggie
patties....strange...

They really ARE simple to make. When made with fresh veggies and just
the seasonings you love the most, they are the difference between a
McDonalds cheeseburger and a fat, juicy, wonderful cheeseburger you
made at home.

That's the brand I'm familiar with. If it's the same company as Boca,
maybe restaurants have switched brands. I used to see Morning Star
Farms on menus a lot, but haven't noticed a brand mentioned in
years... probably so they won't have to print new menus if they
switch.

I haven't eaten them in years. I first bought them at a point in my life
where I was very ill and disabled. I could not stand up for more than a few
minutes at a time. I had a barstool to sit on in the kitchen. I used it to
prep veggies. I needed things that I could make quickly. At the time I
believe soy to be something that was very good for you. I now know
otherwise and you couldn't pay me to eat those things. But... When I found
those things, I decided to try them. I was a vegetarian in those days. My
family liked them as did my one neighbor and his very picky kids. Long
story about him but his wife would frequently leave him and he claimed he
didn't know how to cook. His kids wouldn't eat what he could make. So I
was frequently feeding them. And I could get these at the military
commissary for cheap, especially if I had a coupon which I often did.

Could be. I have seen recipes and for the most part they look like a pain
to make. Plus many contain eggs and I can't have them any more due to an
allergy. I have eaten the Sunshine burgers. I do like them. Haven't
bought any in a long while. But these are the sorts of things I will keep
onhand for those times when we need a quick meal.

My daughter takes a lot of dance classes. Sometimes we need a meal after
school and before class. Sometimes things crop up where I have to run out
and do things unexpectedly. There really is no time to cook but daughter
needs food for energy. If I have something like this in the freezer, we can
have something to eat in a minute. Yeah I know I could make something like
this from scratch and freeze it. But if it's inexpensive and I can buy it
at my health food store just around the corner, then why not do that?

They are a PITA to make. I make large batches and freeze them between
wax-paper in "two-to-a-baggie" method. Frozen on a cookie sheet, they
retain their shape perfectly and I can take them out, throw a couple
in the pan or on the grill and be eating in 20 minutes from git to go.

If you know someone who makes things at the Health Food Store you
frequent, perhaps you could buy homemade ones from someone there. The
store I go to has several people who make a living doing just that for
others.

Soy *is* good for you. It adds protein in place of meat protein. That
in itself makes it worth eating. It is, after all, just another bean.
Unlike other types of beans, it can be used in many more ways.

Don't believe all the nonsense about how bad soy is for you. Soy, like
everything else in life, must be used in moderation. Anything done in
excess or to the extreme will harm you.

Water, sex, medications, exercise, all will cause harm or even death
if done in excess or to the extreme. Soy is no different.

The testing that anti-soy folks like to flaunt is done with gross
exaggeration of amounts. The typical amount used for testing is FIVE
TIMES what a typical soy eater uses per/day.

It's said that one gallon of water, spread over a 24 hour period, is
good for you each day. If you increased that amount to FIVE GALLONS
each day, it would cause your death.

Does that mean that water is bad for you? No. It means that THAT MUCH
water is bad for you. It's the same with ALL the soy testing. The
amounts they use for testing are extreme and no one in their right
mind would eat that much soy in one day.

The average amounts of soy are determined by combining the amounts in
ALL of the items usually eaten, not just the beans themselves. One of
the popular and misleading arguments against soy is that "It's now in
so many things that you eat more than you think you do". Again, the
*average* amounts used in testing are determined by including ALL of
these sources. Then they multiply THAT amount FIVE TIMES and use that
to determine that it's bad for you.

Most of the testing done in that fashion is misinterpreted either by
ignorance or intent by the anti-soy people. When cornered on it, they
either stomp off in frustration or just admit that THEY don't like it
anyway! Not the type of argument I want to base my own eating on.

Thanks. It is healing normally. Which at my age means I have a

Thanks again. I'm including a wide variety of protein sources,
including supplementing with whey protein. I include some meat
and fish but I'm of the school of thought that large portions
of meat are nutrient-robbing, so I consume just a few ounces at a time.
I'm probably getting 90 to 100 grams of protein a day, from whey/dairy,
egg, soy, legume, whole grain, nuts, meat and fish. I am supplementing
various micronutrients as well.

I'm also monitoring my weight and while I lost about 3 lbs in the
first week post-injury, it has been stable since then. I read that
it's considered bad to lose weight while your body is healing, but
I normally have to struggle not to lose weight anytime I am abstaining
from alcohol (which I am also doing with this injury).

I had not thought about including collagen directly in my diet since
I think my body can synthesize it from amino acids. At least I hope
it can. )

Oh how creative. *yawn*

Someone answers your dumb question, and you splutter out "STFU". You
really are a boring twit.

Funny everyone else Googles and comes up with Boca Burgers, and you
come up with restaurants. You are so ****ing retarded it's just
laughable.

I don't know why you're researching for her. LOL

Then why do you keep carrying on about it?

That is actually consistent with your experience that "soy" almost always
means "soy sauce". These both mean you probably don't know many folks
who are eating soy as a protein source. (At least, deliberately.)

Very much disagree. For me, soy caused a thyroid problem. I stopped the
soy and the thyroid problem went away.

I do believe it because it has been proven, by ME!

Actually it is.

I was eating a lot of soy. Edamame, roasted soy nuts, Tiger's Milk bars,
soy bacon and Bocca burgers. Not all of these things in a day but at least
three times a week I was eating something with soy in it.

Now I only consume soybean oil (mostly from restaurant meals) and soy
lecithin in medications and supplements. This amount doesn't seem to affect
my thyroid.

Also, daughter had a soy allergy. She had outgrown it but must limit the
amount of soy she now eats lest the allergy come back.

So?

This is all meaningless to me. I know soy caused my thyroid problems. I
*know* it did. Google it and you'll see plenty of evidence.

If you are eating fast food and processed food then you are probably
consuming a lot.

Yeah, well... I don't really care about the testing. I do know what it did
to me.

I do drink diet drinks that mostly contain Aspartame. Sometimes Splenda. I
don't seem to have problems from either one. I'm not convinced that Stevia
is safe and don't really want to try it because I have heard it tastes bad.
Once in a while my daughter will get a can of Stevia sweetened soda from
the health food store. I let her have it. She likes it. But then she
likes diet cream soda, diet root beer and diet Dr. Pepper. All things I
can't stand.
