We have been complaining about the destruction of the rain forest, but
Europeans cut down most of their forests years ago and then branched out
to North America where they continued the practice of clearing the land
for agriculture and building materials.

Quite right! Quite right!

In the meantime, is there a single living commodity we are not
exploiting/consuming into extinction? I think not.
