With about as much interest being generated by it as anything else i
might write here

My gawd! the way people go on and on about food here and some of
the reductions to absurdities they go to over it!!!

Im bored with the net, and apparently it got bored with me first And
FB is no help, it will go the way of "My Space" before long when the
next fad appears.

Im making an attempt to get ahead of the curve but so far all i have
done is register some domain names, eventually i hope to have a video
chat service that includes general conversation and the availability of
a particular service that can be skyped or other wise performed over a
video link up, for a fee. Forget the invitation to join, just pay the
minimal fee

Chez Joe's' with virtual bouncers to keep the raving lunatics out but
other wise i imagine a kind of cyber club space of my own, a stage for
my art (& possibly any other artists i might feature) that people will
have to purchase a ticket to see and a more public area where people can
congregate and talk to each other (after paying the cover charge

Then: "...and there behind the glass there's a real blade of grass
becarefull as you pass, move along, move along."

FB has the chat feature but people don't use it a lot in any of the FB
groups i subscribe to. And i want to try my hand at my own razzle -
dazzle, stage, set, props, wardrobe, i have not decide on my own set
yet, either the bay view from the window or in front of a book case
where i keep my crystal ball anyway. All CGI of course and a cash
register right next to me

In my more lurid fantasies i imagine im Le Roy Soleil in a virtual
Versailles offering gaming as well as gossip and flirtation, plays, films,
concerts, lectures, fine art & etc.

Though at this point ill be lucky to pull together an obscure little
cyber dive of a joint, with luck i might find my own Edith Piaff.

....Quand il me prend dans ses bras
Il me parle tout bas
Je vois la vie en rose...

Well, good luck! A dive type internet chat room could be pretty cool.

Did you ever get to "Jack La Strange's" in Berkeley? Ashley Brilliant
and Lisa de Longchamps used to hang out there and it was occasionally
scintillating when it was not a miasma of alcohol induced stupor.
Outside it was a
dilapidated, run down, graffiti scared, dump in a bad, dangerous
neighborhood. Inside it
was a gem of a preserved art deco bar from the 1930's all blond wood and
chrome and curvilinear fittings, very well maintained.

Even the regulars were a curious lot of aged alcoholic intellectuals and
equally aged and alcoholic failed artists.

I only discovered it cause a drag queen i knew had to go to the toilet
and was unwilling to hike her dress up in an alley, we had been to a
local low rent Rasta club and walking back to the car found ourselves in
front of Jack's so we popped in, expecting the worst and i was stunned,
just stunned. Walls, floors, ceiling in some sort of mellow blond wood,
highly polished with chrome highlights and mirrors reflecting a soft low
glow of randomly placed wall sconces. Comfortable banquettes, deco bar
and a well stocked juke box..

Living, at he time less than a mile away i went back on several
occasions before the bar was torn down. There was a brief flurry of
activity to try to save the bar as a piece of historic architecture but
it didn't take, the building was nothing special, only the interior
decoration of the bar. I believe the wood paneling was repurposed but
other wise the building was torn dow back in the early 80's.

Googleing, i can only find a mention i made of it, way back in 2006

came from?

Sounds like an interesting hangout place. I was part of the Henry
Africa's Wednesday night crowd. Get there after work (which was after
11PM for me) and stay until it closed. Did you know H.A. died earlier
this year?

If i ever went, and the names seem vaguely familiar, i don't remember it.

The Raleigh's "Star Light" room has been democratized but its didn't
really help, still...bourgeoise mediocrity

Oh, come on, JL... one could argue that the place(s) you remember
with fondness fit the bill of bourgeoisie mediocrity.
