I just want sombody to come to my home and put it all together for me, and I only want to do this because Google is so unreliable and is bad-mouthed here so much. As to Michael Kuettner's remarks about my computer programmer: I may have used the wrong term. He builds and maintains websites for business people, like doctors and other professionals. Until he and his wife went into business for themselves, she ran one of the service departments for Gateway. ....PoutingPicky |

Go to http://www.eternal-september.org/Reg...hp?language=en 2. Register there for a free account to use their newsgroups. 3. Write down your user name and password from that site. 4. You can now set up FreeAgent or the full version of Agent. 5. In Agent, got to "Tools-Servers and Accounts". 6. In the "Host Name" put "news.eternal-september.org" (Without the quotes) 7. Login Method "Username and password" 8. Type in your username and password that you wrote down from Eternal September.org and check "Remember password between sessions". 9. Click "Apply" 10. Click "OK" 11. In Agent, again go to "Tools" and choose "Newsgroup Directory" 12. Click on "Update Directory" (It might take several minutes to update) 13. After the update finishes, scroll down to "rec.food.cooking" and double click it. 14. In the "Get Headers" area of the popup, choose "Get all headers for this newsgroup" 15. Click "OK" 16. You should now have all the current headers arranged into threads. 17. Review the icons at the top of Agent and you'll discover what each is used for. 18. Experiment with the program until you feel comfortable with it. Example: Under "Subscribed Newgroups" you should see "rec.food.cooking" and how many unread messages it has in it. Click on the newsgroup name and the threads will show up in the "Thread Screen". The text of the message chosen in this screen will show in the "Text Screen". You can reply to a message by choosing the message title and then use the icon that looks like a yellow arrow with "RE" in it. The rest is just messing with it until you're familiar with the program. Good luck! |

You can get a free one like eternal September. That's what I use. |

You can get on the net, so subscribe to Facebook Rec.Food.Cooking and you can real time chat with those of us willing to help. Once you have a basic news reader installed accessing AIOE don't require pass words or logging in. -- JL |

Does Verizon offer a usenet server? You might check out alt.free.newsservers > Waaaah! They are probably of the generation that doesn't do usenet. -- Today's mighty oak is just yesterday's nut that held its ground. |

I haev never been a programmer or web site designer and I had little trouble figuring out how to access news groups. When my ISP stopped provided news group service I found a server that did and had no problems setting up my reader for the new server. There are some real dullards that have managed to connect with use net. I trust you don't take your computer to this guy for other work. He sounds incompetent. |

How great for you to have been able to find what you were looking to get into online, and to therewith show your competence through advising others not asking you for such. ....Picky |
