Doesn't matter, the computer will attract just like a vacuum cleaner
and accumulate long hair, short hair, whatever. My computer monitor is
always attracting dirt and fuzz...you can't stop it. I cover my
keyboard when the computer is off and dust still gets in. All it takes
is one roller to be clogged and the mouse will not work right.

If you allow the cat to go where it wants to, then tough
beans...suffer the consequences.

Sorry Microsoft Outlook Express is NOT a real news reader.

Hope you get your mouse/keyboard cleaned/fixed, really.
I'm sure it will help.

"It really simplifies the reading of newsgroups."
Because it was made to be a News Reader. :-)
Outlook Express was made for e-mail.

It's the difference to a graphic artist between using MS Paint or
PhotoShop or Gimp or any real graphic editor.

Use the right tools to get the best results. :-)

Yes. I think that's what it is. I have the new mouse. Just have to
install it.

OK, here are some functions where Agent fails for me:

1. Sort messages by thread, INCLUDING THE ORIGINAL POST IN THE THREAD.
For some remarkably-stupid reason, all replies are assigned to a
different thread than the original post. Doesn't matter whether I tell
it to sort by Subject or sort by thread, Agent assigns each original
post to its own one-post thread.

2. Archive messages as text files which can be searched by range of
dates, by author, by subject, or by some phrase within the message.

3. Include a search function which actually FINDS the things which I
know are there. I can open a message, read it, close it, and then use
Agent to search for it -- but it can't find the thing I was JUST
LOOKING AT.

Until Agent can do those ELEMENTARY things, I remain firmly in the
Outlook Express camp.

Since we are talking about agent, I have a question.

I just recently started using agent again. I had to download it as I
had never used it before on my laptop.

It set up just fine, but every time I try to open it again, it
freezes, says not responding, and i have to close it. The only way I
can get it to run is to run the setup program again, click through
all the setup questions, and then let it open directly from the setup.
It has all my chosen newsgroups saved. I just have to get to it
through the setup instead of just opening it.

Any ideas why it is doing this?

If you accidentally hit the subject button it will do that. You fix
it in the view/sort menu. I did it and it took me a few minutes to
figure it out but it's no big deal.

Global search does it. I've been using agent for 12 years and
upgraded to 6.0 in January. It took a couple days to figure it out
but I like it a lot. I've tried other readers and like this the best.
To each their own though.

Did you download it from Forte? I didn't see any old free versions
like what you're using available a few months ago.

If you paid for it and used the proper registration number, this is
best answered by the folks over at

I don't know. It was a couple weeks ago. I think so. I just did a
search with the same terms, and it comes up with several forte web
pages. I know it was a full version that you can choose a trial or the
free version. It never asks me when I open it.It just freezes. So, I
go through the install each time my computer reboots. Otherwise, I
just leave it open.

I'm using the free version. I have a LOT of things with a higher
priority right now, including an $800 dental surgery for my cat. After
that, I need to replace my phone, laptop battery, and upgrade
photoshop ($200). And then save up for a huge trip in September. I've
always been happy with the free version, so no need to upgrade for
something i don't truly need.

Quinn has had two dental surgeries already. The first was $800 and
they removed 2 teeth, did 3 xrays, and cleaned the rest. Immediate
improvement.

4 months later, she had a bad tooth again. We tried some various
treatments, but it was pretty obvious that she had a chronic problem.
From researching online and asking people at cat shows (many with
similar problems), I determined that the est solution was to go ahead
and pull all the back teeth. The problem starts under the gumline, so
teeth brushing will slow it down, but not stop it. Her teeth were
rotting from the inside. I got an estimate, and I thought we were
getting all back teeth pulled. They removed one tooth, did only 2
xrays, and cleaned the rest. $750.

I was very upset and changed vets. They were either incompetent or
trying to milk me one tooth at a time. The new vet is much better,
and the $800 estimate is for a full set of 6 xrays, 7 teeth removed,
and cleaning the rest of the teeth. She will look at every tooth in
thexrays and pull anything that shows a hint of damage. And she will
pull the other top molars evenif they look good since they are
guaranteed togo bad later anyway.

So, this should hopefully be the solution. Quinn is a good sport and
tolerates a lot, but I can tell that she was never fully good after
the last dental surgery. The first time, she ate dry food for awhile
afterward. This time, she tried and dropped it. I don't care if she
eats dry food or not, but I do care that she wants to and can't. That
means she hurts. I wish there were a way to prove a cat is in pain as
they do hide it ecause of instinct. My old vet just didn't believe me
that she was still in pain. I know my cat, and I while she acts happy,
I know she is putting up with pain.

I am almost to my goal, so I am hoping to make the appointment next
week and take the first available day to do it.

one of the things i love about my vet is that while she is pricey she is
also not a bleeder of clients. when TV went to RB he had an almost full
script of heart meds, i took them to her and she was able to give them to
someone as a sample who really couldn't afford them, i don't know the
details and i am sure she did it legally and i was able to feel that they
weren't wasted. we had an issue with another cat where i asked about doing
x rays, she said no, explained why and told me to save the money for pain
meds when that will be needed.

btw there is a contest right now for arm and hammer bakin soda litter, i
think thats what its called, you send in two photos and explain the two
sides of your cats personality, if you win you get 1k to give to the charity
of your choice, might be worth looking into to see if there are other prises
that might help with the bill.

My long time vet was awesome like that. He would tell me if I didn't
need something I asked for. So, I knew to trust him when he did think
I needed to do something. Unfortunately, he retired. Not a surprise
since he had been our vet for 30 years. But definitely a bummer. I
really do like my new vet. She really listens to me and after seeing
me and my cat a few times, she knows that I have a good sense of my
cat and how she is doing. She also looked over my paperwork and xrays
from the previous vet.

I;ll check it out. If I win, I would donate it to my friend's rescue
group. I adopted my first Ragdoll from them, and we later became good
friends.

Agent doesn't have "free" versions anymore, but they do give you a 30
day free trial period. Look at Help > About and see what version you
have. If it's pre-3x, I doubt you got it from Forte. Delete, run a
malware/virus check and get a legitimate copy from the Forte website.

Can't help you then, but if it's free, you didn't get it from Forte.

Okay, I asked and 3.3 is the last of the free versions. I thought
free ended at 3.0. I'm still suspicious of where you got it though.
I would delete, run a virus check and get a legitimate copy from
Forte. But that's me. You can do whatever you want, of course.
After you do that and if you're still having trouble, go to the Agent
news group and ask your question there. It's probably an easy fix.
