I buy up all the day-old reduced price bread at the store, feeds the
critters.

one of my real beefs with wally is that when they close the deli, everything
they cook lke fried chicken goes into the tras, not on special like meiher,
and not to a food bank, how do i know, we were wasting time in one and a
guy came in at eight thirty ordered chicken, she cooked two hundred peices
and sold him his twenty, by the time it cooled it was closing, and she
started to throw it out, dh offered to buy some for half price, she said no
we don't do that and chucked it into the trash, Lee

I think these days most of the day old bread from grocery stores goes
to the food bank.
At least it does around here. And these days the food bank needs all
the food it can get.

We buy a lot of things in bulk. We have a freezer and a second
refrigerator that we keep stocked with bulk items... or things that we
buy on sale, store and use later.

The savings can be very substantial as long as you don't waste anything.

What do you buy in bulk?

I haven't bought a whole lot of food in bulk yet, but I intend to. I just moved like 4 months ago when I got married so I don't have a big food supply yet. I live in Utah (I'm a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints...people call us Mormons) and my whole community focuses a lot on food storage and on getting a good amount of food supply. I've done some research and something that looks like a good idea is to buy freeze dried food in bulk. A bunch of companies offer around a year supply of that stuff and people say that they make it for meals and it's super easy. It also looks quite tasty.
But yeah, the only think that me and my wife have a lot of is sugar and brown sugar, and tomato sauce (we're so bad). Hopefully with some of the ideas on this forum we'll figure out what else we should buy. Thanks George
