Has anyone used the new HP TouchSmart Recipe Box yet?

I will receive my new HP TouchScreen computer shortly. This looks like
a great way to store and receive recipes with the added ability to use
voice commands to enter and receive directions by computer voice as
well.

I can hardly wait to try it out.

HP has a whole raft of videos on their site to view.

I would post URLs for them here but they would most likely wrap. Just
Google for them if you are interested.

I will be interested to hear how you like the touch screen. Is this
a desktop? If so, you are going
to get really tired of reaching and messing with the screen pretty
fast......at least that's what I hear.

It can't switch over to keyboard & mouse from a touch screen? I can
see using touch to do some things, but not all.

Touch screens have been around seemingly forever. They NEVER catch
on, despite the hardware vendors reintroducing them repeatedly as
"the next big thing" for the last 25 yrs. It's bad enough you gotta
either pull the monitor up to your face or constantly reach full arms
length to click a GUI, but then ya' gotta keep a bottle of Windex
handy to keep yer pizza greasy fingerprints from hosing the view.

The only place they make any sense is a computer kiosk.

Hmmm...five replies so far...negativity seems to prevail. Damn, those
pretty girls on those videos sure convinced me.

Anyway one doesn't have to use the touch screen if you don't want to.
There are all kinds of applications that don't use it. The ones that
do look like they should work though.

Anyway, I will give it a try...after all its just money...if I don't
like it I'll buy the $1500 machine that I had looked at first. Touch-
screens are not new but there are some neat apps with these newer
ones.

Why would you need to pull the monitor up to your face? You keep it at a
usable distance and use pinch gestures as required.

The touch UIs have gotten a lot better in recent times. I use a
smartphone with a virtual keyboard quite heavily when out and about and
it works well. The big improvement in usability was when they perfected
pinch gestures.

My nephews and nieces have those $500 pads and they are very similar
in their functions to the touchscreens of the HP that I'm getting.
They are actually quite a bit of fun and they work well. The reviews
of the HP line are quite favorable for the most part as well. And
those young women promoting and doing the tutorials on the
videos...RRRUUUFFF.

A lot depends on what you are doing. I have a 17" CRT, yet I
view it from beyond arms length. I don't wanna get closer. That
means I gotta lean in and reach full length to hit a GUI botton or
link on a touch screen.

You ever made a living on a computer? I have. You try and get all
motions down to fractions of an inch, not reaching 2-1/2 ft to trigger
a link. All that stupid arm waving Tom Cruise did in Minority Report,
touching see through floating screens, may have looked cool, but it
was all wasted effort. No fulltime 40-50 hr per wk 'puter jockey
would waste all the effort doing something he can do by moving a mouse
1/2" or hitting only 7 keys and a one handed keyboard. It's all
nonsense fantasy.
