Default Easy Caramel frosting?

Sometimes I pipe out caramel frosting onto some sugar cookies, sprinkled
with chopped pecans, to make New-Orleans-style praline cookies.

Caramel frosting is difficult to make though, so I usually just buy it at
the supermarket. Unfortunately most of my local supermarkets don't carry
caramel frosting.

Could I make a faux caramel frosting?

I don't even know what caramel frosting is. Is it the one that goes
on German Chocolate cake?
