Default Demo an egg

I was looking for furniture sales and found this ad. Not far from home,
so I might have to check it out. It's my mom's birthday that day, so
she might like it, too.

From the description I don't think I'll actually cook on one as it
looks like you have to either bring your own egg or buy one there that
you'll use, but it looks like a fun time out. Are these prices normal
for the egg smoker?

Looks pretty pricey. I'd love to have demo proof to its efficacy before I'd invest that scratch.

I didn't look; but what's the cooking area on these two models.

Anybody on here own one? Let's here some testimonials.

Going by memory, I think they were over $1000 a few years back. Never
cooked on one, but most owners rave about them.

Are these green eggs Emu egg? The only thing I know about them are
that they can be bought empty. These shells are used by egg
decorators
and egg carvers.

The "green eggs" are ceramic grills: http://www.biggreenegg.com/

Considering that the "eggs" are about four feet high, I'd prefer to avoid
meeting the bird which could lay them.

No, they are ceramic cookers that weigh from 30 to 200 pounds, depending on
the model. They are green and egg shaped.

I never heard of these grills. They are the same color and texture
like emu eggs.

I read it as *they* supply the BGE-
"At the end of our DC METRO EGGFEST, once-baked EGG packages are
available for purchase by registered DC METRO EGGFEST attendees. These
demo EGGs have been used only once at the DC METRO EGGFEST, and each
package will include: Big Green Egg, which includes an external
temperature gauge, dual function metal top, stainless steel mesh draft
door, DVD, and manual, all of which is neatly seated in its very own
Egg Nest."

Maybe they make you buy it, then refund at the end of the day if you
don't think it is for you?

They rave about all the money they spent.

My SIL had one back in the day when they didn't cost much more than an
ordinary Weber. They weren't an Egg back then - they were called
Kamado pots.

I thought "egg smoker" meant bird eggs too. Do you remember Kamado
pots? http://www.kamado.com/ Big Green Egg is an offshoot.

It's her mother's birthday. I wouldn't turn it down if my kids
decided to give me one.

I have a friend who had a "little green egg" and it was quite a nice
little smoker. He did some awesome pork butts on it.

It's an electric bullet-style smoker and you can get a Brinkman for a
whole lot less cash. Cabella's used to carry the line, but I looked on
their web site and didn't see it.

At $700 for the small one she isn't getting one. LOL We pooled
together last year and bought her a security system for her house. I
only wanted to take her for the foody experience. Talked to her today,
and she didn't seem to want to go. My SIL though wants to go, even if
my brother her DH might not want to. My SIL has a co-worker who owns
four of those eggs and he goes to all of the eggfests. She's curious
about it.

Sigh. I thought my kids were wonderful because they bought me an 8GB
iPod nano for my birthday. <g>
