I usually pop in for a bit in the early evening (ca. time) but its been
empty for the last few weeks at that time.

It would be nice to se some more activity there.

Hehehehe post messages! No one came in anyways so i wandered out of
chat. There's a small cadre of us who enjoy a weekend chat for a few
hours. Harmless and generally everyone is pretty polite in chat there.

I think we have stopped posting little 'wanna chat' notices so folks
don't know when to come in for a bit. I'll see what's up here later
tonight (your early evening) and see if chat seems active.

how so? post a notice here that you'll be in chat that many won't see
until a day later?

Those who are active in rfc and want to chat can do so, the rest don't
care. Steve has no friends who want to chat with him and that's what
his problem is (he can chat to high heaven on FB but apparently he
doesn't).

Why is posting a chat notice such a problem for you? If you see it a
day later, it means you weren't reading rfc and you weren't available
to chat. So what? It's no skin off your nose. Chat is open to
(almost) everyone and it's nice to see new faces there, something that
would never happen with a private (in crowd only) mailing list.

it's not a problem at all for me. but j.l. seemed to be saying steve was
stupid for pointing out that usenet was not the ideal venue to point out
your availability for chat and i disagreed for the reason stated.
