I have to wonder if this is why I am almost unable to walk. Seeing this
I even wonder if calcium, omega 3 oils and other supplements will even help.

I don't know enough to be uninterested. If it were me, I would wonder
about fusion or other surgery. I have stenosis in the same region, but
the symptoms aren't severe enough to prompt me to action. Whatever,
good luck.

Ouch! Compressed disks. Have you ever wondered if that contraption
they show on TV (the one where you strap in your feet and hang upside
down like a bat) would help?

Well, I don't even play a doctor on T.V., but do you have a radiologist
report saying what we are looking at here?

I have three herniated discs, stenosis, and arthritis. A series of
steroid injections worked for me... one a month for three months, no
more pain now for three years. At first I was apprehensive about
having the injections, that they would be painful, never felt a thing
and was over before I thought it began. Where do you live? Perhaps
where I was treated can make a recommendation where you live:

Of course steriods have side effects, gave me a breast fetish and made
me horny 24/7! LOL

Oh Cheryl, sorry. Try different things, maybe something will work, I
have had back surgery, spinal fusion, it made me feel better for
awhile then began having back troubles and pain again, Degenerating
disc disease, just slowly moves its way up... Recently have tried a
series of expensive steroid shots. They did not work, now am seeing an
acupuncturist, if I can get my back to where it does not hurt a lot I
will be satisfied. Try things , there are lots out there, but they
may or may not work/

If you have good ins, the shots may help, they tried the first ones on
me in July, did a shotgun approach, so maybe I could have a good trip
to Istanbul, nope. The bill scared me tho, 15K. The next ones were
centered on the areas they thought would help, and only cost a
couple of Thousand. No I did not have to pay, Ihave very good
insurance.

My point- try till you get worn out , then try to live with it.

The surgeon didn't mention fusion for my back, though he did recommend
it for my big toe that had bone spurs removed last year and still isn't
better.

The dr prescribed PT again so I'm going to ask about that. I have a
massage chair that has a stretch setting that helps while I'm sitting in
it. Similar concept where it stretches the back while doing a percussion
type massage. The foot rest will grab my ankles while the back of the
chair reclines and moves me from a sitting to an almost horizontal
position and back again over and over.

Thanks for the link. My surgeon doesn't recommend steroids though I did
have a shot recently because I just couldn't take it anymore. He
recommended PT which I will start this week.

I don't want surgery but as a last resort of course. I might have to ask
again about steroid shots because they really do help, but the dr said
steroids aren't good for your bones. I had a bone density test that was
normal, so maybe he'll reconsider.

My neighbor did that and was sorry after she did. You need toe
flexibility.

Rosie, did you know that they can test your urine to see how well you
metabolize medications? My son in law was being prescribed big time
meds for pain and it didn't work for him. It turned out his body
wasn't metabolizing the meds, so he's in constant pain. I don't know
what the next step will be.

Yes, I agree. I doubt I'll do it unless I just can't take the pain any
more. It hurts a lot, but I don't think bad enough for that yet.

Surgeons never recommend anything other than surgery, why would they,
they're cut men/women. If I didn't have insurance my shots would have
cost $900, but I did have insurance so my co-pay amounted to less then
$50 for the entire three session procedure. But I didn'nt care about
the cost, it was the results that mattered and my result was
excellent. The doctor on my job told me that back surgery is the very
worst choice. I'm very glad I didn't opt for surgery, now 15 years
later my back is in pretty good shape, and I know my limitations, not
to do heavy lifting... I don't dig any more to plant large trees, I
pay to have that done. Overdoing physical work is what messed up my
back in the first place.

Didn't negatively affect my bone... here, feel! LOL

Don't worry about bone density, first fix your back.
I spent all day today doing my last mowing and a whole bunch of other
chores to prepare for winter that required lots of walking on uneven
ground, my back doesn't hurt at all... I'm sweaty and tired, my feet
hurt, but my back is fine. Those shots are like a miracle.

That's great! I have so much work to do outside and even standing around
today without really getting to sit down was making my leg go numb. I
have 65 pavers that have to be installed around the outside screened in
porch I had built for my cats to go outside. I can't get them from the
driveway to the backyard. I have a tractor with a cart but I have to
get them down a hill and I won't even try to fill up the cart and go
downhill with the tractor. I have a feeling the cart would want to be
in front instead of behind the tractor.

I've had two toes fused, the big toe and the one next to it. Also had the
top amputated off the 2nd one.

Flexibility is not a consideration. Unless you're a ballerina.

I was running 5k's in about 18mins a couple of years after the
fusion/amputation. (As a 32yo)

And I still have no problems with them.

This is just like my chair but mine doesn't have heat. If I want heat I
can use a heating pad with it. There's a demo video on that page. Also,
mine is refurbished, not new.

Checkout the 'Hangups' inversion table. Sturdily made, relaxing if
nothing else. Takes up some room tho - you need to have a spot where
it can remain setup.
