Preserved sheep eyes smell very similar to the bagged meatballs you
can purchase in the frozen section of your local grocer. It's not
identical, but the same "well roasted but not exactly burnt" aroma you
get from the maillard reaction of meatballs is a significant component
of the smell of sheep eyes.

Also, the sheep eye had a similar consistency, when held in the hand.

OBFood: My Laotian friend tells me that he has eaten many kinds of
eyes growing up. He said that his favourite are fish eyes, and he
says they're "like eating a gritty pea. It takes a lot of try to bite
down on them because they slip around between your teeth".

I have eaten organ meats and beef testicles before, but no eyes. As
far as I know, anyways. I suppose that ground meat (such as
hamburger) potentially has all kinds of guts and eyeballs in it, but
ignorance is bliss, right?

LOL, are they commonly available or does one have to search a lot, in
order to find some?

I think you are mistaken.

Call me an idiot all you want, but my motive is not to gross people
out.
