She has to search for recfoodcooking all squished together.

The group itself is RFC on FaceBook. That is not how it was stated in
the nudge-nudge-wink-wink clues that you gave me. As I've already said,
at first I thought THAT was making the difference but I have found that
I couldn't (and still can't) get there using that name even though it
was copied exactly from the site. I don't know why it's doing that, but
I know I'm tired of it being used as a reason to insult me. As someone
else has posted in this thread, I'm not the only one who's had that
experience.

You're failure to understand is not a reason to insult me.

Yes, "RFC on Facebook" works. Sorry about the post to Becca, when I
actually tried it - it took me to the rfc unofficial website. Didn't
realize FB did that.

That was one of the variations I searched for. No dice. This RFC was not
found. The group/page still does not come up for me during any search. I
am only able to get there using the link I was given last evening.

I'm neither stupid nor inept. When I enter RFC on Facebook in the search
bar, here is what I get:

The "more results" takes me to Bing and page after page of everything it
can find that has "RFC" and "Facebook" in its name... except
rec.food.cooking's FB page.

When I type "RFC," "RFC o," "RFC on," "RFC on Facebook" or "RFC on
FaceBook" into the search bar, nothing happens automatically. I've got
to tell it to start the search.

The results are the same no matter how I spell it, capitalize it, change
word order or otherwise break it down. Those are the results I get.

Facebook searches can be frustrating. Search for the words "RFC on
FaceBook", there are around 110 members.

Congratulations... you are officially dumber than a stump. You may be
on a Facebook page, but you are typing your search query in your browser
search bar, not the Facebook search bar.

I appreciate the help, Christine, but I have bad news for you. Have you
tried searching your name on Facebook?

It's okay. I had already found YOU you on the group's page. As I said, I
can get there using the link. I don't understand, however, why the group
doesn't turn up using the search function.

What you get if you do that is: No results found for your query.
Please check your spelling or try another term.

The only other things I've found are UK football teams and
references to Rainforest Challenge.

I was tempted to try to find it. I know nothing about Facebook. But
I am really computer clueless and don't want to ask for help. By now
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be welcome.

I found it easy enough with R.F.C.

It is unusual to encounter people who are both paranoid and stupid. I
don't know what her problem is.

Bow out, asshole. I know the difference between the two, and I've been
more than clear that I'm using the Facebook search bar.

No, actually. I AM using the Facebook search bar that says "Search" in
it on the Facebook page, right next to where it says "facebook" in black
font on a blue background followed by the three icons for friend
requests, messages and notifications, and have been using that search
bar all along. After the search results come up, one can find another
Facebook search bar, below and to the right of the first Facebook search
bar, that has the terms of the last search in it.

I told you, I am neither stupid nor inept. I don't know why you
addressed me as though I am immediately after I told you that.

Yes, I get results for tons of football teams.

Cabal? Wouldn't know. Moderator? It was already explained last night
that the poster who mentioned moderators was talking about whoever runs
the FB page.

It's difficult to keep up with the discussion when you're behind in your
reading, isn't it?

It's harder than you think. Try setting up a new account and don't
link them, then try searching using the usual suspects.

It does NOT turn up using the search bar that belongs to Facebook. I am
NOT using the browser search bar.

I agree so much with this. I got angry at my son for leaving us, my
dad, and angry at God for taking them. I can't even say I'm over the
anger yet after all these years. I don't want anyone to say let it go
because it won't go. I don't know that I want it to go.

Anyway, thank you for reposting that. I haven't been surprised by the
reactions here because it is how people deal with something that touches
them. Some are thoughtful and quiet, some aren't. Neither is right and
neither is wrong. It just ... is.

Neither paranoia nor stupidity are my problem.

Ok, look, this is not rocket science. You either post the exact
coordinates and stop sending people on wild goose chases or you
tell them you don't want them in your club. It's not a frakkin'
mystery.

If this is going to be a Christian nation that doesn’t
help the poor, either we’ve got to pretend that Jesus
was just as selfish as we are, or we’ve got to acknowledge
that He commanded us to love the poor and serve the needy
without condition, and then admit that we just don’t
want to do it.

That's because you're already subscribed. Try finding it from an
unlinked FB account on someone else's computer.

Doh!! Sorry. "facebook" in white lowercase font, then the three icons,
then the search bar that says "Search" in it on the left and has a
magnifying glass at the far right end. On my landing page, there is no
other search bar. The only empty area for text entry under the search
bar on that page is the "What's on your mind?" update bar.

After I do a search for RFC, R.F.C., RFC o, RFC on, RFC on Facebook, RFC
on Facebook, etc., etc., using (here we go again, gotta prove it 'cuz
I'm officially dumb as a bag of rocks you know) Facebook search bar that
says "Search" in it on the left and has the magnifying glass at the far
right end, next to where it says "facebook" and the three icons for
friend requests, messages and notifications, and the search FAILS, the
page that appears has the Facebook search bar (next to the three icons,
etc., etc.) and a second Facebook search bar below and to the right of
the first one. The second Facebook search bar already contains the terms
of the search that was just done.

Nobody knows that you need to add "on Facebook" unless they're privy
to the information and "one of us" f*cked it up anyway. Dat one be
me.

Don't you think that it would be better if these personal attacks were

Yeah, it would have been posted just to the secret Email list.

Oh, baloney Janet! Most assuredly, you'd be welcomed. If I was
learning the computer now, I'd consider FB another resource for help.
I surfed internet chat rooms, asking dumb newbie questions in odd
places like hot tub rooms before I learned about usenet. Never found
anything racy and no one was ever mean to me. The whole point of the
rfc FB page is to stay away from the nastiness that happens here.
What's nice about FB is that if there's someone you don't want to ever
see posting on the rfc page, you can set it so you don't see them and
they won't see you. It's a two way kill.
