Question: after cleaning them out, is the food
still edible? Do ants carry disease?

Instinctively, one tends to jettison it, but I want
to be rational.

Ants live in homes made of dirt. If I walked barefoot through dirt,
then rubbed my feet on your food, would you worry about bacteria, or
would you cheerfully eat it?

I've had ants in the house before, but they've never swarmed all over
my food. I usually just killed the ants (getting the queen) and
didn't worry about the food, but if it had been covered in ants I may
have a different attitude. Only had two invasions and haven't had one
in years (knock on wood).

Never in my food either. Twice in the house here and a couple of times in
NY. I am always on the lookout for them now and if I see them outside, I
spray. They don't get in the house.

If they did in the food I would for sure not eat it.

I've read so many ways to eliminate ants. Is this for real? Can anyone
attest to it? I've tried borax (they say not to use it if it's on grass
because it will kill grass) and DE which isn't really stable when it
rains. I think my house was built on an ant hill because outside I have
so many of them and they get into everything. I haven't had an indoor
problem since having to treat for termites. They used Termidor injected
around the perimeter of the house, and drilled holes in the foundation
to inject there, too. I actually know I had termites because I found
them before an inspection. Found a worker who broke through drywall,
and then some mud tubes behind an exposed wall. I also had a problem
with swarmers in the downstairs bathroom in the first couple of years
after I bought my home.

Ants and termites seem to share ways of getting in the house.

is evident.

I do not accept that they are harmless, and I do not follow the
conventional wisdom that that Splenda is good for you. That you are
rude and judgemental of those who would rather not use them because

I didn't say anything positive or negative about Splenda. I don't know
enough about the subject to spout off in public about it - which
didn't stop you. I said you're an idiot for being confident enough in
a story that just sounds made up that you actually repeated it to a
group of strangers.
