Default Yay- canned pumpkin in my mkt

Huge display - been wanting some for my cat for over a year.

I was a bit miffed tho that they did NOT have

Fels yellow soap
frozen pearl onions
frozen edamame.

They must've know - I didn't get the usual "Did you find everything
OK?" line at the checkout..

Guess I'll have to try the competitor.

There was a big display of canned pumpkin at Aldi Sunday --
ninety-nine cents each.

I've never seen any big grocery store be out of canned pumpkin...all
year long.

Over the last year or so there were a number of posts about a pumpkin
shortage. Any time I remembered to look for canned pumpkin I had no
trouble finding it. Fearing that they might be something to the shortage
rumours, I made sure to get some in the summer. Then when Thanksgiving
rolled around last month there was lots.

Kewl. No Aldi here, but it sounds like we won't have the great
pumpkin shortage again this year.

I had a can of pumpkin on hand when I needed it, but I looked for it
later in the holiday season and didn't see any. I was fine with that
because I only need one pumpkin pie at Thanksgiving.

The only reason canned pumpin is scarce in some areas around holiday
time is due to stores not stocking enough. But there is no shortage
because canned pumpkin is actually butternut squash and it's on the
store shelves all year... you can even order it on line, Amazon sells
it in various size cans and in single cans or by the case. Sam's Club
has pumpkin in #10 cans.

Actually, I was looking for it last July-ish (last year) as I was
making samples for a wedding cake tasting. I looked in at least 4
large grocery stores, and could not find any. I ended up using
butternut squash for the sample, and they chose that one of course!
When wedding time came (10/10/10), there was plenty of canned pumpkin
in the stores, so I used that.

Gee, maybe I wasn't clear - they HAD PUMPKIN. It was the OTHER
three items they did not have.

I can find several brands, but not my favorite (One-Pie) brand. I
do have six cans of it socked away though. I actually used to
Libby's that I got under duress and was reminded that it is not
nearly as solid as the One-Pie Pumpkin.

Has anyone in the Northeast seen One-Pie Pumpkin this year?

This year, yes. Last year, the crops were generally ruined by
weather, and canned pumpkin was non-existent on store shelves. There
isn't any shortage this year.
