Default The Dirty Truth about Cereal Toppings

Cereals are typically sweet, or at least sweetened. Most cereals are not
bland.

Nuts, while tasty, are unsweetened in their natural form.

Adding a large amount of unsweetened nuts to cereal takes away from the
sweetness of cereal, making it bland.

Solution: Only add a small amount of nuts to cereal.

Some cereal contains nuts. I don't top my cereal.

Do they still make those? I used to get them when I was a kid. Thought I
was being naughty because of the name. Thought they had beer in them.

I can't eat nuts. I love fruit on cereal..... fresh berries, or frozen,
bananas, dried blueberries, bananas.....

I do, admittedly not often, but sometimes when eating a bowl
of shredded wheat, I will add almonds.

The factor here is that shredded wheat has no added suger, but
most (all?) nut-containing cereals are sugared. So it may make
sense to add your own nuts.

Yeowch, I really should use that spell-checker.

Nowadays, Yes.

We used to add sugar, but that would be weird on the breakfast
cereals I eat nowadays.

I don't eat cold cereal but I'm thinking about starting and topping it
with wheat germ.

Or add sweetened nuts to your cereal, or put more sugar on it.

Cereal is, generally speaking, pretty awful stuff. Better to eat the
nuts, sweetened or unsweetened, and skip the cereal.
