The curse is reversed! An awesome performance. I was worried something
would go wrong, a la Bill Buckner in '86. It was almost anticlimactic,
given the way they won the pennant.

OB Food: Made dirty rice for dinner, along with Chilean asparagus.

What a great baseball post season in 2004! Until it really happened,
I didn't dare hope that the Red Sox would actually come home with the
Championship. This morning I heard that the Lunar Eclipse was
responsible for last night's win. That's as good an explanation as
any. )

I want to celebrate with a grand meal for two tonight. The left over
chicken with pasta can wait for another day. Is Boston famous for a
special wine? I doubt it, but wine will be served. Perhaps I will
just get some sausages, make sauerkraut and open a can of Bush's Baked
Boston Beans. A combination Oktoberfest/World Championship dinner.
From the sound of his name, Curt Schilling must have German ancestors.

Today it is good to be alive!!!

I've been waiting for this since the last time the Sox played the Cardinals
in 1967. My parents have been waiting since before the Sox played the Cards
in 1946. I imagine that it is hard for people who didn't grow up in Boston
to understand what it's been like to be a Red Sox fan over the years.

My grandmother died not long after the Red Sox played the Mets in 1986. The
last thing I told my grandmother while she was still coherent was that it
looked like the Red Sox were finally going to win the series after winning
the first two games in New York. She smiled.

I'm thrilled! I just wish I was in Boston right now. I should have planned a
visit for this week.

The Sox winning the series is great, but the BEST thing was their coming
back to beat the Yankees!

Bush's beans would NEVER be served in Massachusetts!
If using tinned...B&M...perhaps. Better yet real Boston Baked Beans
with brown bread.

Did you see the cute bit that Doug Mientkiewicz and Schilling were doing
about being the Series champs? "No, not the Series. The WORLD Series."
etc. Very cute.

OB Food: Baked pork chops, fried cubed spuds, green peas, gross squash.
Haagen Dazs Mocha Almond Fudge ice cream at screenside.

I do not eat baked beans, but read on.

Minutes after I posted about the celebration dinner and the main
course in honor of Curt Schilling, I found out that my idol has feet
of clay. He will appear with George Bush and appeal to the general
voting population to vote for him. A man whom I admired when he
pitched two games under the most horrific physical condition, to get
the Championship for the Boston Red Sox, the team from the State of
which a senator is the Democratic presidential rival, a man who I
hope will be our next president.

Naturally, I immediately decided to give up on the sausage dinner and
went back to the former menu, namely left over chicken and pasta.

That will learn Schilling!!!! I am a woman of principle. Just wait
until he finds out about it. )

Marcel is bewildered. He expected nice, juicy sausages and delicious
sauerkraut and was served dried out chicken and burned pasta. Let him
put the blame, where it belongs.

No, I didn't think of it until this very minute, when I caught up with

Dear Goomba, You will be welcome in my home, no matter for whom you
vote. This is the USA and we are privileged to be able to vote and
speak out about for whom and against whom and why we vote and why.
Having been born somewhere else, I appreciate this privilege more than
you will ever know.

I am looking forward to see you a week from today! Margaret

Nah. If he wins, though, you might want to watch what you drink.

Thank you, Barbara, I knew you would find a way to straighten this
out. Schilling decided not to get into politics and canceled his
appearance. I know that you fixed it, even if he said that the Red
Sox management did not approve and later on it was said that his
doctor did not allow it.

We here on rfc all know that it was our Barbara who fixed it. Thank
you, we won't even ask how you accomplished this. )

Damon is Da Man for me on the Boston Red Sox Team! Did you really
need to ask?

Thank you all for your kind words when I was so disappointed. M

Hold on a second! Dear Margaret, you mean you really do not eat
baked beans? That means, you are missing out on one of life's
most simplest food pleasures, a pan fried hot dog, split down
the middle partially, put on a hot dog bun, slathered with
Heinz's best, then topped with two or three tablespoons worth
of hot baked beans. This is also one of life's messiest food
pleasures! And since I know you enjoy a nice glass of wine on
occasion, you can even enjoy this simple sandwich with an
inexpensive dry red, but I prefer a cold cola instead.

Well, I can tell you, I spent 2 days (they soaked for about 18 hours) making
Boston baked beans from scratch.
And they were good. No question.
But honestly, I can't say they were better than canned. They weren't quite
so mushy as canned, but they weren't better enough to spend 2 days making
them! They were in the crockpot at 9am. at 4pm, they were still too watery,
so I poured them into a stoneware casserole and baked them for 2 hours.

I still have leftovers, too. That reminds me....I can have that for lunch!

Just finished watching the "Rolling Rally" (aka a parade) from Boston. New
England Cable News carried it, and luckily my cable system gives us that
channel. I wish we got NESN (New England Sports Network) but I know that
will never happen. Anyway, it was fun watching all the loonies in the
streets of Boston and along the Charles, braving the cold and rain to catch
a glimpse of their heroes.

The spontaneous chants of "Yankees Suck" cracked me up!!!!
