Default Moving in - New Years Dinner

We aren't close to being done unpacking... I just got the office
functional and Becca is unpacking in the kitchen. This afternoon we are
going out to eat at a local buffet. Probably have all the foods
designed to bring you luck like pork and kraut, black-eyed peas, greens
or cabbage, etc.

Cooking related.... I hired two men to help unload the truck the other
day. Two refrigerators, and a chest freezer were first, then boxes and
boxes went into the kitchen, then the Weber Grill and then the Bradley
Smoker. One of the guys said to me, "You folks are really serious about
cooking, aren't you!"

Moving the freezer turned out to be easy. We put all the frozen food we
had into the freezer and loaded it onto the truck last, just minutes
before we left. Got to TX and ran an extension cord to the truck and
plugged in the freezer... and unloaded it first in the morning. It was
only without power for a little less than 4 hours and nothing defrosted.

Happy New year to you all!

Good for Becca! We still have a few boxes from our last move in 1984.
Some day I'll get curious enough to open them. (Mostly books, I think.)

Wishing you good health and happiness in your new home. Remember that
remodeling is a good excuse for buying those power tools you've been
craving. ;-)

Happy New Year,

Moving is very stressful. Like you I always made sure the computer was set
up first

How long was that freezer on the road? I've kept food in the a dying
freezer for up to a week. No big deal so long as I wasn't constantly
opening and closing the door.

Happy New Year to you, too! Glad you're getting settled. Moving is a pain
in the butt.

This is so great! Not often that you hear a "happy moving" story.
Usually something valuable gets broken or stolen. Can you tell I hate
moving? Did you sell the old house or did a family member move in?

The thought of moving is stressful! Our last move was 30 years ago.
We've talked about downsizing but trying to sort out what would get
left behind, finding what we would want to buy or build, we are
staying put.

Over the years, we've accumulated too much "stuff" and I'd not want to
haul it to a new place.

I am itching to downsize! We are two people in a large house and I want to
move!!!!

Then don't! I weeded out all the 'stuff' I don't need/don't use/don't love
last year. The charity shops around here love us

I recently moved a friend from TX to CO, we put his freezer in my
enclosed trailer, a ran an extension cord out of the trailer and into
the back of the truck to a Honda EU2000 generator and kept the freezer
powered the whole trip. Worked great.

It's all a function of organization, and doing all the packing yourself.
I've done a few moves myself (and my moves are anything but normal) and
I've moved a number of friends and nothing has been damaged or stolen.

wonderful things have been found, Lee

Late response: congratulations. And good idea about not putting
things just any old place. That "temporary" can drag on for quite
a while.

thanks, i amm late getting back to this group, the unpacking is still going
slowly and some sadness at things we found that are no longer useful, but on
the brighter side, i am keeping a list of things to replace, that list is
much shorter than i thought it would be... lack of furniture and cabinets
makes one really choosey, Lee

I hope that sadness is tinged with happiness at being in your new
abode. Does the insurance payment cover new furniture?

yes it did but i put almost everything towards the house so we wouldn't have
to barrow money, the house that burnt was so close to being paid for i
recoiled at taking out another note, so it will work out just gonna take
time, once the note is done it will go faster... the happiness is being back
in control of my surroundings, and out of a city space, country/rural, even
with no trees or grass on our lot is preferable to all those people and all
that noise, Lee

It'll take time, but you will get there. And your perspective
will change as time passes. You have been through a lot....

yes and have learned a lot, what you have, where you are and how much money
have nothing to do with real happiness, also, i learned that it should NOT
cost almost 9k for a hole in the ground to get rid of poop, but it does, Lee
