Louisiana State University (from Baton Rouge) takes on University of Alabama
(from Tuscaloosa) in the upcoming BCS Championship game. Baton Rouge is
squarely in Cajun country, so I'm thinking that some kind of gumbo would
represent them well. But what would be a good food to represent Tuscaloosa?

My brother in law is from Alabama and he loves his BBQ. He's not a
"this is the ONLY sauce type of guy... He's the guy who built a BBQ
out of an oil drum and put a chimney on it. He did all of that stuff
before anybody commercialized it.

I am a proud grad-u-waite of the University of Alabama, and I'm
tellin' you, son, that anythang that involves meat is a "good food to
represent Tuscaloosa."

My BCS Bowl contributions to the party are going to include Muldoon's
Whiskey Marinated Wings and Artichoke and Spinach Dip, the latter of
which would be hooted out of town in Tuscaloosa, I gaur-ohn-tee.

Try some fried okra, fried onion rings, fried biscuits (yes, I said,
fried biscuits), fried chicken strips, fried damned-near-anything that
moos, oinks, baas or cock-a-doodle-doos. Include the foregoing with
barbecue sauce and you're done.

How about hush puppies and beer-battered fried catfish?

One of the reasons I started this thread was _Frank Stitt's Southern Table_,
which gives recipes from Stitt's Southern restaurant (Highlands Bar and
Grill) in Birmingham. The book contains a recipe for smoked trout salad with
blood oranges, avocados, and frisee. Would that be too high-falutin' for
Tuscaloosa?

I wish you had asked earlier. We just walked the Yorkie and he would have
been delighted to find you a possum. Polly

An older boar, because the tusks are looser.

Cover those fried biscuits with sugar and they'll taste like New Orleans
beignets.

Dang, Bob, you screwed up the attributions and didn't include the
poster who initially replied (see triple carets).

And, yeah, smoked trout salad, etc. would confuse your average
Tuscaloosan.

Auburn? Really? Seriously? Jeez, Giusi, and I always thought you were
a relatively intelligent, discerning person.

Any alumnus of a school named after a color is suspect: Brown, Auburn,
Black Mountain...

I said I attended, not that I graduated. One did many things probably
thought through more thoroughly in other circumstances when one is living
the military life. Where would you have me go? Montgtomery Junior College?
