the money the first seven years we were together. She was interested
in a career that required graduate school, and we put our eggs into
that basket. The school I went to was primarily because I'm
interested in knowing things. I might not have a lot of earning
potential, but I've never been unable to get a job. I have paid off
every cent of student debt. You know, that debt that can't be
discharged by bankruptcy.

Every one of your posts that demean my interest in the details of
health has made you less attractive to any employer who bothers to
Google you. You screwed up once by posting something you shouldn't
have on the internet, and you paid pretty dearly. Now, you're doing
it again. Through nothing but your obnoxious behavior on Usenet,
you've greatly lessened the value of that education. You're smart
enough to know all this, but I guess maybe you think it's to late to
make any difference.

I know many smart people who have no college degrees. They all have one
thing you seem to lack and that is the ability to work in their chosen
field. The only person here who has an inability to stay on task is you
and you keep on reinforcing that with your persistent claim to have 3
degrees! I can claim 3 degrees also but the difference is I have always
worked in a field relevant to my degrees and, even now that I am semi
retired, continue to work in that same field.

That glass house you live in, John, has a lot of broken windows. You
should fix them up first before posting further!

I didn't quit because of the academics. I did go back to community
college when I was 26, and ended up with an Associates with a 4.0 GPA.

yourself in an interview, and you're asked what you've been doing.

Oh, relax! I know it's not bullshit, it's just a phrase. I've actually
taken to heart and put into practice some of the things you've been
promulgating here. Like using a couple of bell peppers thinly sliced
and sauteed in EVOO as "pasta replacement". That's what I had for
dinner last night! And it's not only minimally negatively impacting
fullness-wise, it's pretty tasty!

And where did you ever get the idea that being OCD was always a bad
thing? It's not. Not always. It *can* be a bad thing, but OCD properly
managed can be very useful and lead to great productivity! Sure it's a
psychological disorder, but not one of the worst ones to have.

John, if you truly think a college degree defines how "smart" someone
is, you're quite ignorant. Case in point- you claim to have three yet
haven't impressed anyone here with your "smarts" and can't get/keep a job.
My sister used to teach GED students. She said going that route is
actually a LOT harder than high school, where you'd get half the grade
just for showing up. Her students were required to learn and be tested
on information I don't recall having to learn in HS.
How about college drop outs- Steve Jobs and Bill Gates for example. Are
they "stupid" because they don't have your three degrees? You just
punched your ticket and fulfilled the requirements for a degree yet
can't seem to function well in the real world so who is better off?

No, college degrees to not define someone as smart. But they are
accomlisments. Anyone who has a college degree knows this too. A
college degree invilved intelligence which enables one to do the
required work, but a degree also demonstrates that someone has the
ability to stick with a long and difficult task (sometimes
unpleasant!) and complete it successfully.

There are college degrees and there are college degrees. The degree of
difficulty is dependent upon the discipline. A degree is a stepping
stone in a career path hopefully providing the necessary underpinnings
to a career in a particular field. Relevant industrial experience rounds
out the degree and makes it much more valuable than the degree alone.
For this reason, if I see a person who has a degree but has not worked
in a relevant field for 10 or more years since its attainment, I
discount the degree entirely as a factor in an employment application.

He does have the degrees, and the student loan debt to go with 'em.
The double major in computer science and electronic engineering is
from a prestigious school, Washington U in St. Louis.

Google will hire talented people. A degree or any other formal education
is unimportant. It's what they can DO that counts most. Several people
went through the ranks at my department without a degree. Needed to pass
the public service exam to gain entry however. I didn't begin to attain
my degrees until I was in my late twenties and I started with the public
service at age 15.

Anyone who professes to have 3 degrees in disparate disciplines yet
cannot get appropriate level employment in ANY of those fields needs to
be regarded with some degree of skepticism and distrust. In the past I
have interviewed many candidates for employment and the most common
reason for rejection of a candidate, even though the skill set and
experience was exemplary, was a criminal background or other dishonest
practices such as faked credentials.

I still think, if he does have 3 degrees, that they were purchased, not
earned. Failing that, one can only assume he is a moron.
