OK I need something new in the way of a tuna salad recipe. I HATE RELISH, so
leave that out. It would be nice to have something with nuts or other interesting ingredients. |

Ingredients * Serves 6 * 750g tuna * 4 tbsp olive oil * 1 small radicchio * 2 tsp sumac * ¼ preserved lemon, rinsed, flesh removed and finely chopped * 50g currants (soaked in water for 20 minutes, then drained) * 50g pine nuts * handful parsley, chopped * 1 cup verjuice * salt and pepper Method Slice tuna on an angle into slices about 1cm thick. Heat 2 tbsp olive oil in a heavy-based frying pan until smoking, then add tuna and sear on both sides for about 1 minute or until brown. Place radicchio leaves on a serving platter and arrange tuna on top. In the pan, place remaining ingredients, stir and bring to the boil. Season to taste and spoon over tuna salad. -- Peter Tasmania Australia |

I have occasionally mixed tuna with drained chopped bottled Italian "pepper salad" or bottled red roasted peppers. The peppers are oily enough, even when drained on paper towels, so it doesn;t need any other dressing except maybe a squeeze of lemon juice and some fresh ground pepper. gloria p |

Something like that is easy to try different ingredients to see what you like. Mustard, or not. Onions, or not. Mayo, or just a vinaigrette. Experiment. |

I add a handful of grated carrot to tuna salad. Doesn't seem to make any difference to the taste and maybe does sneak in a vitamin. Polly |

That would probably work with marinated artichoke hearts, too. Bob |

Use your favorite recipe and add a small amount of chopped apple For me, to the base of tuna and mayo, I'll add small amounts of onion, celery, horseradish, and mustard. I'll add apple if I have some and sometimes 1/2 hardboiled egg. |

In tuna salad, of course I use hellman's mayonaise. I've never made my own mayo yet, but then that might be too sexy. Anyway, tuna, mayo, a tad apple cider vinegar, some chopped walnuts (love that texture), chopped red bell pepper, chopped celery, and some fruit such as grape halves seedless. |

I always like tuna salad with tart apples, raisins optional but I like them. -- Food is an important part of a balanced diet. |

One of my favorites is tuna salad hoagie. Run through the turbo oven on nice bun, extra mayo, tomato, onion, cheese. I would take one on toast right now. Greg |

My sister adores tuna and only Kirkland tuna from COSTCO. Her clue...don't use relish and instead chop up whole sweet pickles. Enough to alter the just tuna taste, mix with sea salt and fresh nicely ground pepper and mayo (best Foods, here). Sit for 12 hours. It does matter. The crunchy sweet pickles make all the difference. aloha, Cea |

Both sound like great ideas. Thank you both. It made me think of the jar of celery salad I've got in the pantry that I'll bet would be good too. http://www.europeanmarketonline.com/...ery-salad.html Lou |
