Winner earns our admiration :-)
Only one rule-don't read anyone else's reply before replying with your own idea. Tag, you're it! My latest Food Network magazine has a contest for readers that sounded quite fun. I am not sure how the tv show works-I think cooks are allowed to use the standard supplies of a well stocked kitchen-oil butter cream spices flour sugar etc to make their plate from the four secret ingredients?? READY SET GO! Chefs-here are your four ingredients: 1. chicken 2. peanut butter 3. sauerkraut 4. frozen cherries |

Every thing I think of seems to turn out to be some Kindergarten type meal. Black Forest Cherry cake with peanut butter and sauerkraut. But then what to do with the chicken. Chicken curry, can I use a starch? No? Still OK, but a curry needs something besides chicken. I can't add chicken to a Black Forest style cake. And I don't even know if I'm allowed to make a BFCC??? I need whipped cream etc. Chicken breast stuffed with peanut butter topped with a cherry sauce??? With sauerkraut on the side??? No thanks. KINDERGARTEN |

Chefs-here are your four ingredients: > > 1. chicken > 2. peanut butter > 3. sauerkraut > 4. frozen cherries Cut up chicken and sprinkle with kosher salt. Let it sit so the salt sinks in. Heat oil in a pot for deep-frying. Heat water and salt in a deep pot. Blend peanut butter with tapioca maltodextrin. Put resulting powder into two different bowls. Add cayenne and garlic powder to one of the bowls. Break an egg into a third bowl, add a bit of water, and beat until mostly smooth. Slice a big onion and separate into rings. Dip the prettiest half of the rings into seasoned bowl of peanut-butter powder, then into the egg wash, then into the unseasoned bowl of peanut-butter powder. Allow to dry on a rack for a few minutes. Clean out the blender and blend the sauerkraut, cherries, and remaining (ugly) onion rings together. Taste mixture and adjust sweet-sour balance with either sugar or white vinegar. If needed, add enough water to make a sauce consistency. Put mixture into a saucepan and simmer gently to combine and reduce. Slice a cabbage into ribbons and put into the pot with the salted water. Start cooking: You'll have to keep an eye on it and remove it when it's crisp-tender. Heat clarified butter in an oven-proof skillet and sear chicken, then put skillet into a 350°F oven to finish cooking chicken. When cabbage is crisp-tender, drain and toss with butter and black pepper. Arrange as the "bed" on a service plate. Deep-fry the breaded onion rings. Remove to a rack for cooling. Remove chicken pan from oven, and remove chicken to a holding plate tented with foil. Pour off most of the fat from the pan, then deglaze with the cherry-sauerkraut sauce, using a wooden spoon to scrape up the brown bits from the bottom of the pan. Whisk in about half a stick of cold butter to make a glossy sauce. Place chicken on top of the cabbage on the plate. Spoon sauce over chicken. Arrange onion rings on top. Bob |

I was considering entering. I thought my idea had merit.
It's always difficult to get adults to play with open minds like children :-) The show is quite interesting because the plate each chef prepares is so different from the others yet uses the same ingredients. I suggested in another cooking group that people post their own challenge with a new 4 ingredient list. One person took me up on it-baked beans, pasta. green pepper, and mandarin oranges-I am pretty sure she thought that would be an absurd list :-) So I in theory heated/softened the pasta and baked beans together on the stovetop and then stuffed the green pepper with the beans/pasta, and baked in the oven, while reducing the mandarin oranges to a syrup used to decorate the plate lol. Then I added a comment about baked beans are sweet so adding a "citrus note" to the flavor would not be all that unusual. Green peppers are usually stuffed with beef of course but beans are protein also so I don't think its too far of a stretch? |

What you made isn't all that odd to vegetarians, though rice instead of pasta would have been more typical. I'd have cubed some and seared some sirloin, then added it to the beans along with chili spices (oregano, cayenne, cumin, and powdered ancho chiles), and served the beans on top of the pasta with a salsa made from red onion, oranges, cilantro, and either chopped Fresno chiles or cayenne. Try *this* four-ingredient list: Natto Cheap cake frosting (whipped shortening, sugar, and red food coloring) Canned asparagus Underripe watermelon Bob |

Natto
Cheap cake frosting (whipped shortening, sugar, and red food coloring) Canned asparagus Underripe watermelon I had to google Natto. I love feta cheese-how does it compare? So, the natto can be sweetened with the frosting and dried into chips-the red food coloring is a plus lol. Since the asparagus is canned, I would make a pickled relish out of the asparagus and watermelon. Serve at Christmas and scoop up the green pickled relish with the red sweet natto chips :-) Now, if the asparagus was fresh I would dredge it in crushed sweet red natto chips, grill it, and top with pickled watermelon relish. |

I think it could be a chicken dish with some sweet taste. Fried chicken can be prepared with these ingredients.
