Joy of Cocking is a good one, famous but I would not say the best. I like
my "The Gourmet Cockbook" by Ruth Reichl. Another favoite of mine the the
Better Homes and Gardens Cockbook. And who can forget the first Julia Child
cockbook, "Mastering the Art of French Cocking?"

It's like the Vulcan mind meld...no one but the French are good at
French Cocking...what can I say...the Germans tried (1914-1918) but
as you probably know, there are no great books on German cocking.

The May centrefold was a superior chick...a great egg-sample of

First of all it is not "Cockbook", it is "Cookbook". There is no specific book that is the best. There are many books that are good for any specific recipes. It really depends on the choice of the reader.

Not just French cooking. The most important components of cooking written in
cookbooks are in French cookbooks. For us northern europeans the best dishes
are in French cookbooks.
