Polish Stewed Beans - a Polish recipe
Based on a recipe in 365 Foreign Dishes (author unknown) (1908). Serves 4. 8 grams net carbs per serving. 1 lb string beans 1 Tbsp butter 1 Tbsp flour 1/2 cup vinegar 1 Tbsp brown sugar cinnamon ground cloves Break the string beans into pieces. Add to enough salted water to cover them. Boil until the beans are tender. Melt the butter in a pot. Stir in the flour. Cook until the flour is brown. Add the water in which the beans were cooked. Add the vinegar and brown sugar. Season to taste with some cinnamon and some cloves. Let the sauce boil. Add the beans. Simmer for ten minutes. Serve with a beef roast. These sweet beans actually go with just about any beef dish you might want to make. They'll go really well with meat loaf, unless you're one of those people who smothers the meat in catsup or barbecue sauce. This also goes well with baked ham (we'll be having this as a side dish on Easter). -- Mike |

I wonder why it is called a Polish dish. It is prepared in same way across many countries in the world.
