Default I apologize

to any I offended in this newsgroup. I was new and the first replies
to my first poost upset me.

That and I'm 49, going bald, overweight, out-of-shape, have no
income-- or job prospects, lost my motivation after last job interview
didn't pan out, am running out of money, going through a divorce with
someone I thought was the LOML, and I didn't know you shouldn't
combine zucchini with eggplant.

Hopefully, I will be back next week.

I haven't read much lately but I hope things work out for you. Can't
write anything about the divorce part, but if you're low on money, this
group can help you learn to make low cost meals. You do need to have a
thick skin or a good news group filter.

You can combine eggplant with zucchini if you want to. I've been posting / lurking here for a few years and there isn't much you can do with food that won't be attacked or ridiculed sooner or later.

Thanks. I'm on the cheap and just use Google groups. And do have a
fairly thick skin (or fat skin-- at the moment)... I used Forte years
ago, but then things changed. ISPs stopped carrying groups... maybe
the new Google groups will have better filtering? Google always
improves things, right?

So why is this group so active? Most have withered away... When AOL
stopped carrying them. (Which was good at first, but then bad...)

I took 2 years of Italian in HS, but forgotten most of it. (I think I
could ask someone the time, in an emergency)... Erie had a large
Italian population. At the time, in the 70s not as large. But then
we've all put on a few pounds.

I very often grill eggplant and zucchini together... I like to slice
them lenthwise... Japanese ichiban eggplant grills beautifully.
Breaded zucchini/eggplant sticks can be made on the grill too, then
eat with a marinara dipping sauce or use them to prepare parmeasan
style. Grilling garden veggies is a great way to use up a bumper crop
fast.

damn tree-rats used up most my crop last year. And this year, don't
know if I will be here in 3 months...

One time, I opened my back door and there was a tomato at the door.
One bite take out of it. ******* could have at least eating the whole
thing.

Stalking? You mean like what you do to Bryan? And, no, unlike your

no, no it wasn't. There was a weird vibe about it and when stepped
outside and looked around... there was the tree-rat, on the fence
staring at me.

But when they invaded my crawl space, then I called in the experts.
Took out two of the *******s.

Not that good a one. Best one I ever heard was from my 5th grade camp
counselor who called me "Professor Uncouth" because I brought my own
Tasco 1200x microscope when I heard we'd be looking at pond water
samples.

I believe this group is active because it's a good group, but also
because it's subject, food, is a broad one, just as the subject of the
alt.obituary group, death, is a broad one. I respect this place as a
food group and as a place to get helpful answers to questions related
to food or cooking. Your right, this place moves fast. If you come
back two days later and your thread is still on the front page, or
even the second page, that means a lot of people are posting into it.
Of course, as in all groups, the original topic of the thread may no
longer be under discussion, but that's the way it goes, and frankly, I
like when threads drift off on their own without being forced - and I
don't believe the drift is forced - because if it were forced, people
would just drop out of it. Yep, it took me a while to get used to how
active this place is. Of course the old alt.comedy.standup group was
also very active. But then the clique of comics who started it got
all annoyed with newcomers they perceived to be "trolls", so they went
off and started a moderated group just for themselves, and it lasted
less than half a year. The old group also withered away but is still
alive in a very dead way. I guess in terms of the few groups I've
visited in my time, this is one of the most active and helpful,
although I will admit I don't mind going a bit off topic sometimes,
without forcing it on purpose or anything.
