The chicken soft tacos with green sauce instead of secret sauce is seriously good. ALWAYS substitute the green for the secret sauce. Never allow them to put that caulking gun "guacamole" on anything. You can order the half pound green burrito, then add steak or chicken for an extra dollar. Of the 3 hot sauces, the Del Scorcho is the only good one. It's the medium hot one. You are lucky. The Del Taco franchise in St. Louis was poorly run, and went out of business about a year ago. It was a treat for me last August when we were in Rock HIll, SC, and I got to go to a Del Taco. Del Taco cooks their beans and grates their cheese in-store. They're still fast food, but they're one of the best fast food restaurants east of the Rockies. Think Popeye's, and how much better their food is than KFC or especially Church's. Fast food doesn't have to be crappy. There are some chains that are patently bad, like Arby's. We have one here in St. Louis that has great food: http://www.lionschoice.com/ Real beef roasts sliced thinly, not the composite lunchmeat they offer at Arby's. The green sauce at Del Taco is divine. I miss it very, very much. > > Tara --Bryan |

I went to the one in my town once, drive-through, and ended up with soft steak tacos that although assembled poorly, were good enough that I thought about having them again a few months later when I was nearing home from a long drive. I did not use the drive-through, although quite tired from my trip, because I wanted to watch them being made. I was the only one at the counter, looked up at the menu to be sure what to call what I wanted, and ordered. The person taking my order had given a few seconds of his attention to the drive-through microphone in his ear, which gave me chance to notice the girls making up orders. What I saw of their counter mess was enough to cause me to tell the order taker no, never mind, I had no idea how things were put together here and what sloppy service is given to things expected to be eaten. I walked out and have not been back to any drive-through service since. ....Picky |

My only problem with the "counter mess" is knowing how much food gets wasted. Sounds like you're a candidate for psychiatric intervention, who also needs a laxative. --Bryan |

If one compares it to Taco Bell, there's a pretty big contrast. THe beans are boiled and mashed in-store. The cheese is freshly grated, so no microcrystalline cellulose. The green sauce really is something special. It is *very* similar to green chile you get at restaurants in New Mexico. > > John Kuthe... --Bryan |

OK, the cell phone crosses a line, but the whole germaphobe, wear plastic gloves thing is a product of American neuroticism. It does remind me of a song I wrote about 10 years ago, but that never got played or recorded. It's called Fast Food Man, and I'll share the lyrics. Remember, this is punk rock, and folks might wish *not* to read further: Fast Food Man V-1 The food tastes good and I'm lovin' my meal But if I got to thinkin', it could really spoil it. When I think about whether you wash your hands When you scratch your balls or use the toilet. Chorus Hey, hey, fast food man I wonder if you washed your hands. With all the things that you could do I'm gonna be real nice to you. V-2 You cough a little, and you rub your nose You wipe your forehead, and I suppose If I ****ed you off, you could spit on my food. And **** and shit and semen too. (repeat chorus) > ...Picky --Bryan |

By some definition you just made up. While good fast food items are the exception, they exist. Lion's Choice roast beef sandwiches, Popeye's spicy fried chicken, and Del Taco's bean & cheese burritos are notable exceptions. I hear that the burgers at What-a-Burger are as well. > > Even a blind pig finds an acorn every once in a while! ;-) Since pigs probably depend more on smell than sight to find acorns anyway, I imagine they find quite a few. > > John Kuthe... --Bryan |

This is especially true for Chinese food. Just fantasize about spotlessly clean shiny stainless steel kitchens if it helps. If you're really picky, just make it yourself. |
