My favorite frozen pizza was pre-sliced. For some reason, this made it
better than a regular frozen pizza. The next time I have a frozen pizza,
I'll try pre-slicing it.

I made a pizza last night. It had pineapple and bacon and shitake
mushrooms on it. The mushrooms were fine, I suggest that you chop them
up cause they're somewhat chewy. I used the proof setting on the oven
and let it rise a long time. It was a tasty pizza. OTOH, we was eating
at 9:30. That's the breaks.

You live out in the country, so it is nice to have something in the
freezer for a snack or a quick meal. Little Caesars is a 2-3 minute
drive from our house, and we have picked up one of their hot, $5 pizzas,
once or twice, it is enough for both of us.

For $6 at Walmart it doesn't make sense to do pizza any other way.

Ha. You tricked me. Others knew it was a frozen one but I suspected
homemade. The slightly irregular crust was my clue. Most frozen pizzas
have perfectly round crusts.

I sometimes buy Tombstone pizzas when they go on sale. I'll buy the Supreme
and enhance it with extra onions, garlic, and cheese. Not bad when you can
buy them on sale for 2.50 - 3.00 each.

I haven't seen a pizzaria selling $5 pizzas that would feed two, least
not in the last 20 years... around here $5 would buy two slices (and
they'd be reheated from pies that could have been sitting around for
hours while flies feasted on them). There are three pizzarias within
five miles but a plain pie costs like $16, they don't deliver and even
if they did it would arrive cold and then there's the tip... and they
close at 10 PM. There are two Pizza Huts each about ten miles in
opposite directions but I think their pizza is disgusting and it
arrives practically raw. Several years ago frozen pizza was garbage
but not anymore, now some brands rival the best pizzarias, and nothing
stops me from adding more toppings which I usually do, and I can cook
it to the doneness I choose. Frozen pizza is very convenient (I can
have it 24/7) and I don't need to travel to some dirty joint and have
to wait for some skank to serve me. Frozen pizza is produced
robotically and hermetically sealed, no filthy hands touched it...
have you seen the slobs who work in pizzarias? And I know I can
custom build my own pizza from scratch but it really doesn't pay to
take all the time and effort when I have perfect pizza in my freezer,
and there are so many varieties to choose from.

I have to admit I was skeptical, but Little Caesar's "Hot and Ready"
pizzas are pretty good. You get your choice of cheese or pepperoni and
it is $5. It is a 14" pizza which is enough for the two of us and
surprisingly, it is very good.

The cool part is that they have a drive in window... pull up, hand them
a Lincoln and they hand you a pizza. Their goal is to greet you with a
smile and fill your order within 30 seconds... and they do a good job of it.

Some frozen pizzas can be pretty good. We also like the "take home and
bake" pizzas at Sam's Club. A very large pizza with everything on it is
$8.87... and if you are going to eat it right away, they bake it for you
at no additional cost.

When I go the frozen pizza route I prefer Red Baron. I was stunned at the
price of frozen pizza, even store brands, the last time I checked.

I did include the box in the picture...

I've tried Tombstone but I don't like its cardboard crust, and you
really need to add toppings as they don't give much. The best frozen
pizza is still plenty inexpensive enough that it really doesn't pay to
light an oven for the cheapo pizzas. I like DiGiorno and Frechetta, I
prefer their self rising crust versions. I sometimes buy the Walmart
brand, it's made by DiGiorno (I can tell from the die cut witness
marks on its packaging) and it costs like $2 less but the varieties
are very limited. I keep a spot in my freezer where I can stack four
pizzas, I typically have one once a week. Frozen pizza is a bit
bland, obviously so that most folks can eat it, so I add extra spices
and usually I grate on a bunch of hard cheese, didn't on this one as I
ran out of grating cheese, but I did scatter some small cubes of sharp
white cheddar... for spices I add some Penzeys Italian herbs, some
granulated garlic, some crushed red pepper flakes, and some fresh
ground black pepper. By experimenting I learned to set my oven to
415º and set the timer to bake for 32 minutes, I like high brown (well
done). That perforated pan knocks the socks off any stupid pizza
stone. And I bring the perforated pan to the table, you can't with
those low IQ stones. The perforated pan doesn't permit condensation
under the pie so the last slice is as crisp as the first... that pan
works a treat in my Weber grill too. With homemade pizza that
perforated pan eliminates the need for a peel... slice pizza right in
that pan. I use the pizza box under the pan, no crumbs on my table.

That sounds like a good deal, unfortunately according to their locator
the closest Little Caesars to me is 37 miles, the next closest is 68
miles.

Walmart has that same service, they keep those refrigerated pizzas in
their deli department. I've glanced at them but never bought one, if
they cooked it I'd have to eat it all then, if I brought one home I'd
probably end up freezing it anyway. But next time I'll check them out
more seriously, I'm sure it can sit in my fridge for up to a few days
until I cook it. I rarely get to Sam's Club (once or twice a year),
the closest is about a 70 mile drive, I have two Walmarts just under
20 miles away in opposite directions, I get there like twice a
month... the Walmart north of me is much nicer... it's in a fairly
affluent neighborhood. I only patronize the Walmart south of me if I
happen to be driving past for some reason but if that were the only
Walmart around I wouldn't like it either. Compared to the Walmart
north of me they are as different as night from day, even carry very
different stock. I'm positive that those who complain about Walmart
live in poor neighborhoods... all stores reflect the socieo economics
of their location.

Stunned how? There isn't much price spread from the lowest quality to
the best quality (~$3-$6) and none are expensive. I also figure that
if I'm going to run my oven at a relatively high temperature for 40
minutes I'm not going to skimp on the pizza.

I get one every month or two. It's not my idea of great pizza, but it
tastes dam good. $5 no brainer.

True but not the ones I would buy. There's about 3 brands I will buy but
only if on sale. I don't love them to death so I can wait for the sales.
They are a good standby to have in the freezer for busy evenings.

DOH! ;-O heheheh well so you did.
That pic showed up large on this old computer (600X800 screen resolution) so
I had to scroll to the right to see it all. I didn't scroll past the pizza
though so I completely missed the box on the first pass.

That looked tasty though. I'll have to give them a try. I forget if I've
tried them before.

Meanwhile.... I'm going for another homemade one this Sunday This time I'm
going to try (never made before) a broccolli white pizza. Broccolli cut
somewhat small but not chopped, lots of garlic, plenty of EVOO (gasp!)
enough cheese to make it work.

My ex(tm) used to make it often for Melissa (daughter) when she visited her
on Sundays. Melissa always brought some home for me.

What are those three brands you would buy that at least one is on sale
at any given time? And even when frozen pizza is on sale about the
most those very inexpensive items are disounted is like 50¢, not worth
hustling through the store only to leave empty handed... normal people
after traveling all the way to a store, shop up and down the aisles,
wait at the check out, and travel all the way home would buy pizza on
sale or not. I've not once shopped when either Digiorno or Frechetta
wasn't on sale, they alternate weeks like Coke and Pepsi

Frozen pizza is never on my list unless I see it in the Wednesday ads. I
rarely even look in that case otherwise. My local (expensive) store rarely
puts more than one kind on sale. I make my list of "extra treats" using the
store ads from the newspaper.

If I really *want* pizza, I'll make a better one myself. Frozen pizza is
just a standby for the freezer and only if it's on sale.

I like broccoli but I doubt I'd like it on pizza... I know I wouldn't
like broccoli with tomato sauce. Eggplant parm pizza would be
delicious.

I tried a slice of BBQ Chicken pizza and didn't care for it. The BBQ
sauce clashed with the tomato sauce.... not good.

I tried a Papa John BBQ chicken pizza with pineapples and barbecue
sauce. It made me cringe because it was way too sugary. My wife really
digs it. That's the breaks.

Gary
Come on, man. I know youse rich kids in the upstate area have some decent cheese layin' around. Pizza/bagel dough is a cinch. Very disappointing; but, we've all been there.

Git dat dang cat off the cuttin' board!!

You sound like my daughter when she was young. She never wanted to eat
something new. I always insisted that she take just one bite of a new dish.
Half the time, she loved something that she wouldn't have tried otherwise.

If you like broccoli, I'll bet you would like both kinds of pizza. Maybe -
everyone has their own tastes though. The one I made up with tomato sauce
and spices is pretty darn good. You chop the broccoli for that one.

As for the white pizza, it's very good too and a completely different beast.
On this one, you cut the broccoli into larger pieces. The topping consists
of broccoli florets, lots of garlic, mozarella cheese, and EVOO. I might add
some onions today(???) Also, oregano wasn't mentioned for this. I'm
wondering if I should add some of that too?

I got the gist of the recipe (no exact amounts) from my daughter so I'm
going to give it my first try today. It might turn out good (I hope) but if
not, I'll know how to fix it for the next try.

I'll a take a few 'step' pictures just in case it turns out good.

Gary

PS - today is 3rd Sunday and 3rd pizza. The last two were great but today
I'll be treading in unknown territory. :-O

Broccoli pizza is obviously new to you though.

LOL! Sounds like you're ready for a fight today! hahaha My mom would use
canned cream of broccoli soup....not me. What I attempt today will be all
fresh ingredients. It still might suck though. ;0 I'll let y'all know.
If it fails, it sounds like you'll be happy.

That's one of the stupidest things you've ever said, and that's saying
something about how unbelievably stupid you are.

There are some interesting ideas there. I don't know that cooking
seafood that way appeals to me. I am having visions of rubber bands.

I wonder how often novices cook live lobsters w/o removing the rubber
bands, or remove them in such a way that they get pinched, "OUCH!"
