Default Why do older people get more finicky about food?

My mother is extremely finicky about food-Dad will shovel in anything
you set in front of him. In a world that seems like its moving/changing
faster and faster (but really you are moving slower) food is a constant
a familiar that you cling to-plus a certain generation was taught to
waste not. I love to try new things, and I wonder how old I will be when
I stop wanting to.

I still have nightmares from my parents 50th wedding anniversary party
trying to give all those old people their coffee-you would think they
had been deprived of coffee for years.

I believe years of coffee damaged their tastebuds :-) Mom's cooking
lately has had a few seasoning errors.
