Default Crayon Muffins

Don't eat them!

I make these with my class at the end of each year to use up the odds
and ends of broken crayons.

Peel the paper off the crayons and break the crayons into pieces small
enough to fit your muffin tins. I line the tins with aluminum
cupcake liners. Fill the cups about three-fourths full. Place the
tins in a 250 degree oven and check the muffins every five minutes
until the crayons are melted. You can also leave them outside in a
sunny spot all day.

Here is what you get:

Very cute! And brought back a memory of what I did with crayon
ends when I was a kid. Melted them in bottle caps to be used in
a sidewalk game called ... Bottlecaps!

we used to save them to add coloring when we made candles. Something a bit
more practical than whatever the heck this foolishness is about.

Then you settle down with a good book. I like to skip the crayon
cupcakes part and go straight to the book.

Aren't you a little ray of sunshine? It's an activity for the kids at her
school. Sheesh.

I understand doing an activity with the kids just because it's fun, but
what do you do with the "muffins" when they are done? Do they color
with them?

yes, I was a little kid at the time, and we made the candles in school.
Back when school taught practical things, not just how to let kids have fun
doing stupid things. And I was quite the ray of sunshine back then, too!

Yes, the muffins are fun rainbow crayons. We tie the activity into
our science standards as a review of:

states of matter
heat conduction and radiation
recycling and reducing waste

I bet kids love colouring with the multicoloured ones.

I read somewhere that the fumes produced from just melting crayons are
toxic let alone using them for candles... and most candle burning
produces carcinogens, especially when colorants are present... I think
only pure beeswax candles are safe, and only when safe wicks are
employed. Folks who burn common candles at home may as well be
smoking tobacco... burning incense is also dangerous to ones health.
