Here's a website showing minimalist sandwich displays for each state.
http://www.statelysandwiches.com/ The more obvious have already been assigned. What would you pick for your state? I haven't a clue for CO. I can't see a Denver sandwich, which is basically a Denver omelet on toast. Ick. As it's a beef raising state, perhaps a steak sandwich. nb -- vi --the heart of evil! ![]() Alaska isn't shown on the site, but my guess would be if there was a "state sandwich" here, it would be a halibut burger, as most all restaurants here have them on the menus, and they are delicious! When I was in Kodiak several years ago, there is a restaurant you can go to out in the "boonies" and get the BEST buffalo burger. The owners raise the buffalo themselves, and are famous for their burgers. Course my hubby would say, he prefers a moose burger from one he has shot. Judy |

The most common sandwich in NYC ordered by Noo Yawkers has to be a bagel with a schmear or fried egg on a buttered kaiser roll. In the rest of the state it varies greatly by area... around here it's a saw-seege n' peppers parm hero. |

It was the sandwich that was so good that Elvis Presley used to fly from Graceland to the Denver airport, where he would be met at the tarmac by a guy from the sandwich shop with a sack of these sandwiches and they would eat them on the way back to Memphis. It's no wonder E died of a massive heart attack at 42. Elvis could also figure into the sandwich from Tennessee, which could be the fried peanut butter and banana sandwiches. I live in South Carolina, and the unofficial state sandwich is probably the chili-cheeseburger, which of course is a chili without beans, and is topped with mustard and pickles, although I skip on the pickles. |

They spent three hours in the hangar eating the sandwiches, washing them down with Perrier and champagne. Presley invited the pilots of the plane, Milo High and Elwood Davis, to join them. When they were done, they flew back to Memphis without ever having left the Denver airport.[1] |

Iowa might be the loose meat sandwich.
Illinois would either be the Italian Beef sandwich or Chicago Dog. Michigan might be the Michigan Coney Island Hot Dog. New York might be the Beef on Weck, but that's more of a Buffalo thing. Some cities have their own signature sandwiches. Pittsburgh has Primanti Brothers and the Oyster House fish sandwich. Philadelphia of course has the Cheesesteak. |

I thought SS crabs were prepared uncleaned. I know I had a deep fried crab at a Japanese resto, once. The didn't clean diddly. Maybe the cook was jes ****ed cuz we came in too close to closing. First bite, a mouthful of crab gills (the dead man's fingers.) If I hadn't been eating them for years, it would have put me off for the rest of my life. North Carolina would have to be the BBQ pork sandwich, with a dollop of slaw on top. Eastern Carolina is more vinegar and red pepper flakes sauce, Western Carolina is more mustard based sauce, and I think you get out of the Carolinas it's mostly tomato based BBQ sauces, but it's all good. I lived in Cincinnati for a number of years and traveled all over the state, and can't think of a sandwich that represents Ohio. Cincinnati had no signature sandwich, as it was famous for it's Cincinnati Chili, along with Goetta, and Graeter's Ice Cream. Speaking of Graeter's, it is finally starting to show up here in the Greenville area. The Fresh Market carries Graeter's now, along with Publix. |
