Stainless as promised, nice long handle with hole for hanging.
Fits my 3 qt, 2 1/2 qt. and 2 qt. saucepans. Happy camper.

Course, now I'll probably get emls galore cutleryandmore.com
but I'll see what kind of offers they make. I'm on the hunt for a
decent mandoline and a discount wouldn't hurt me one bit..

For a multipurpose mandolin you can't get one cheaper than this:
http://www.bedbathandbeyond.com/prod...p?SKU=10496373 and you can
purchase it online, rather than have to go to BB&B and be tempted by
other things there.

Picky, do you have that exact one, and do you love it?

I have decided against buying so many things once I have seen them in
real life that I would advise against buying anything sight unseen.
You may not like the feel, how it handles, its heft, etc.

And Bed Bath and Beyond is not nearly as tempting as it was years ago,
before the quality of kitchen appliances and gadgets tanked. Nowadays,
if I want to be tempted, I go to a restaurant supply warehouse. Their
power appliances are crazy expensive, but hand tools like slicers are
quite reasonable.

For that price, it has to be plastic. I'm willing to go better than
that.

You are so right about seeing the item in the flesh.

Yeah - their stuff has gone down in quality too. Are we heading for
becoming a nation of Dollar General or Walmart for purchasing
choices? The dollar stores are popping up like not even 5 miles apart
now.

I have an Oxo mandolin that's plastic (except for the blade). It's a
basic handheld model, about $10. It's sturdy and easy to clean. I only
do small slicing tasks with it, like a few potatoes or beets. It does
adjust down to paper-thin slices, which was perfect for onions in cole
slaw.
